Jeremy Irvine created fake showreel for War Horse

Dec 8 2012, 4:20am CST | by

Jeremy Irvine created a showreel of fake work to land his job in 'War Horse.'

The 22-year-old actor - who had his breakthrough role in the hit movie - became so obsessed to finally get a job he resorted to hiring cameras and filming the showreel before passing it off as real to agents.

He said: ''I was making show reels with my friend - this is basically how I got 'War Horse'. I spent a year making this four-minute thing, and I went around agents telling them it was professional work.

''Looking back, it's embarrassing, but I made lots of clips. I did a bit of 'King Lear,' I did a few other scenes from things with different costumes, and made it look as though I'd done a load of work!''

The star - who is dating singer Ellie Goulding - admits his fame has made it even harder for him to have a relationship and he says he was star struck on the set of his latest film 'Great Expectations.'

He said: ''Let's just say it wasn't easy to go on dates before all this [fame] and it sure isn't easy now.

''A lot of it is still guess work. Of course, walking onto a set with people like Ralph Fiennes [as Magwitch] and Helena Bonham Carter [as Miss Havisham], you are going to be a bit like, 'God, that's Helena Bonham Carter, you know?'

''I'm just this snotty-nosed little new kid. But you just try desperately not to think about it.''

A few days ago at the Toronto International Film Festival, I landed an exclusive video interview with Michael Douglas for his new cat-and-mouse thriller The Reach.  Directed by Jean-Baptiste Leonetti (Carré Blanc), the film features Douglas as wealthy businessman determined to kill big game in the Mojave Desert.  To help accomplish his goal, he hires a local guide (played by Jeremy Irvine), but after a  tragic accident they quickly become adversaries, and the rest of the film i ...

THE REACH Review | TIFF 2014

Sep 9 2014 7:33pm CDT | Source: Collider

I like the premise of humans hunting other humans for sport because it’s delightfully ludicrous and perversely entertaining.  It’s a lean, direct concept that removes the frills to become a battle of wits between the hunter and “the most dangerous game”.  For the majority of its runtime, Jean-Baptiste Léonetti’s The Reach sits comfortably inside this framework.  The story takes the occasional shortcut, but it ...

THE WOMAN IN BLACK: ANGEL OF DEATH Trailer Goes to Dark Places

Aug 21 2014 10:35am CDT | Source: Collider

The Woman in Black opened surprisingly big back in 2012, scoring $20.9 million during its opening weekend and then going on to lock in a grand total of $127.7 million worldwide.  With a $15 million production budget, the film clearly earned itself a sequel, but what’s another Woman in Black without Daniel Radcliffe?  Helen McCrory and Jeremy Irvine are certainly quality talent as well, but how can you expect them to draw the same cro ...
