Bret Easton Ellis: Katherine Bigelow is overrated

Bret Easton Ellis has slammed 'Zero Dark Thirty' director Katherine Bigelow.
The opinionated writer claims Oscar-winning filmmaker Katherine - who made history in 2010 by becoming the first female to win Best Director for 'The Hurt Locker' - is ''really overrated'' because she is a ''hot woman''.
In a series of cutting tweets, Bret wrote: ''Zero Dark Thirty might win critics awards but Silver Linings Playbook will win the Best Picture Oscar. This is how it always happens...
''Kathryn Bigelow would be considered a mildly interesting filmmaker if she was a man but since she's a very hot woman she's really overrated.''
When outraged fans branded his comments sexist, the 'American Psycho' author hit back: ''Kathryn Bigelow: Strange Days, K-19, The Widowmaker, Blue Steel, The Hurt Locker. Are we talking about visionary filmmaking or just OK junk?''
Katherine's new thriller 'Zero Dark Thirty' - which stars Jessica Chastain and Kyle Chandler and recounts the hunt for Osama Bin Laden - has been tipped for an Oscar after picking up Best Picture, Best Director and Best Cinematographer at the New York Critics Awards.
However, Bret - who is a big fan of Lindsay Lohan and scripted her upcoming thriller 'The Canyons' - was unimpressed with the critics' response to any of Katherine's films and thinks the Academy are trying to promote ''bulls**t'' female outlooks.
He continued: ''I still believe that if ''The Hurt Locker'' had been directed by a man it would not have won the Oscar for best director.
''The only time I felt a woman director deserved the Oscar was Sofia Coppola for Lost In Translation because it had a no bullshit female tone.''
The controversial figure also weighed in on other Academy Awards contenders earlier this week, calling 'Les Miserables' an ''incomprehensible mess'' and declaring he ''hates'' 'The Dark Knight Rises'.
