Keira Knightley drawn to dark roles

Keira Knightley prefers doing ''darker'' films, but is happy to do any that are a ''challenge''.

Keira Knightley enjoys doing ''darker'' movies.
The 27-year-old actress - who has shown the dark side of her personality in movies including 'A Dangerous Method' and 'Anna Karenina' - admits she is always drawn to how challenging a film is for her, but what format that takes often changes.
She said: ''I try to do pieces that are as challenging to me as possible. Now one day that could be a romantic comedy or the Hollywood thriller that I'm currently doing ('Jack Ryan'), but lately they have taken a much more European, kind of a darker tilt.
''But it's been more about what I wanted to explore, the worlds I wanted to explore.''
However, no matter what she does, Keira makes an effort not to engage with critics too much, and instead has a close circle of people she trusts.
She told Deadline.com: ''I think you have to be careful where you take your notes from. So I've got about three or four people I talk to, and I pretty much ignore the rest.
''In watching yourself, it's very difficult to remove vanity - you think, 'God, I look disgusting'. At the end of the day, you can't listen to everyone's opinion or else you'd be very, very confused.''

Oct 24 2014 6:00pm CDT | Source: Collider

[This is a re-post of my review from the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.  Laggies opens today in limited release.] There is certain kind of movie that I would describe as a “Sundance Comedy”. They’re technically indie films even though they feature movie stars, and they’re almost always fairly tame. They’re cute at best and forgettable at worst, and Lynn Shelton’s Laggies has the distinction of being both. What begins as a moderately interesting coming-of-age ...

What Were You Doing When Star Wars: The Phantom Menace Premiered?

Sep 23 2014 2:17pm CDT | Source: movie pilot

It is 8PM on May 18th, 1999: I'm ten years old and the back of my crappily-made Jedi robe is snapping around behind me in rhythm with my hurried steps as I walk alongside my Dad. We head into The Bakery Center (now known as The Shops at Sunset Place) with our lightsabers clipped to our belts. It's time! I've never been to a midnight premiere of any movie before, and since it is a weekday, the line for Star Wars: Epi ...

THE IMITATION GAME Review | TIFF 2014

Sep 8 2014 7:24pm CDT | Source: Collider

In September 1933, General George S. Patton told the Calvary Journal, “Wars may be fought with weapons, but they are won by men.”  Mathematician Alan Turning proved Patton’s statement was only half true when it came to World War II.  It was won by men and a machine.  Turing and his team used a computer to decipher the Germans’ “Enigma” code, which turned the tide of the war and was one of the key c ...
