Katee Sackhoff is surprised it has taken so long for an all-female action movie.
The 'Battlestar Galactica' actress is set to star in a female version of 'The Expendables', but believes there has been prejudice towards women in leading roles in Hollywood until now.
Katee told Collider.com: ''This business is hard. People and producers and studios and finance guys get caught up in saying, 'Women don't sell movies', or 'This person doesn't sell foreign', or 'You have to attach guys first', or 'People don't want to see women do this.' I've heard those things so many times that I've actually heard myself say them a number of times. It is nice for someone to finally take a chance.
''But, I also think there's a market for things that are new and different and take chances. Those are the movies that really take people by surprise. I am surprised it's taken this long. I'm happy that it did because I wouldn't have been in it.''
The proposed film is being produced by Adi Shankar and will also star MMA fighter-turned-actress Gina Carano and Katee is excited about the prospect of a female cast which could rival its male counterpart.
The 32-year-old actress said: ''I can't imagine, with everyone that Adi Shankar is bringing around the project, that it's going to be bad. I really put a lot of faith in him and his eye for detail. I'm a big fan of Gina, and there's a lot of strong women.
''When I sat down with Adi and he pitched the women that he wanted in the movie, these are not your five-foot-two skinny girls. These are the girls that can actually kick some ass, which made me excited.''
'The Expendables' franchise - created by action hero Sylvester Stallone - has grossed more than $500 million worldwide.
'The Expendables 3' is currently in the pipeline and will star action legends' Sylvester, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Nicolas Cage.

Suicide Squad!! How Would it Fit into the DC Cinematic Universe?

Ever since the success of The Avengers in 2012, many movie studios are trying to copy Marvel's formula for a shared cinematic universe. In 2016, we're going to see DC and Warner Bros attempt it with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, while we're also going to see Sony's new venture with Sinister Six, a Spider-Man villains team up movie. While Warner Bros also announced that they will be taking on the villain-centric movie too with the Suicide Squad, it ...
