Robert Rodriguez film could be blocked

Nov 21 2012, 2:05am CST | by

Robert Rodriguez could be prevented from releasing 'Machete Kills' following a lawsuit filed by Overnight Productions.

Robert Rodriguez could be prevented from releasing 'Machete Kills'.
Overnight Productions - the company behind the 2010 movie 'Machete' - have filed a complaint over the rights to the project and are seeking to terminate the agreement they made with the director-and-producer in April 2012 in which they agreed he could make a follow-up film through his Quick Draw Productions and are also looking for $2 million in damages.
Overnight Productions claim they were not provided with Texas tax credit information as required under the agreement and have also experienced difficulties over the fee owned to their owner Rick Schwartz.
The suit, which has been obtained by Deadline.com, states: ''Defendants have also failed and refused to provide the required budget information to Overnight Productions so that it can determine the producer fee owed with respect to the sequel''.
'Machete Kills' - the second in a planned trilogy from the director - sees Danny Trejo, Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez return alongside Charlie Sheen, who plays the US President, Lady Gaga, Amber Heard, Mel Gibson and Sofia Vergara.
'Machete Kills' is scheduled for release in spring 2013.

Hoo-boy, people did not want to see Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.  The box office prospects for the follow-up were already looking pretty dim following dismal reviews and lack of general interest, but few would have guessed that directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s stylized sequel would only make $6.4 million for the entire weekend—for the entire weekend!  That’s down 78% from the first film’s opening weekend, and puts the film at No. 8 ...

Top 10 Mickey Rourke Films

Mickey Rourke has had both a turbulent professional and personal life to say the least. Alternating between a career in boxing and one in film, his life has had many ups and downs in both. He started out as a boxer but then decided to retire in 1973 and focus on acting. His first role was a tiny appearance in Steven Spielberg's major flop 1941 and one year later he had another small role in possibly the greatest financial cinemati ...

Review: Sin City: A Dame To Kill For

Aug 22 2014 11:57pm CDT | Source: Dark Horizons

It's been nearly a decade since Robert Rodriguez's stylish adaptation of Frank Miller's Sin City comic book series shook up the megaplexes with a darkly humorous brand of pseudo-noir. Unfortunately, the long-awaited sequel Sin City: A Dame to Kill doesn't prove to be worth the wait. Whereas the first film  was kitschy, ambitious schlock, its sequel is a monotonous, shallow, parody of its predecessor. Rodriguez and Miller play up the nihilism, misogyny, sadism, and fl ...
