Brad Bird rules himself out of Star Wars Episode VII

Nov 19 2012, 4:01am CST | by

'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol' director Brad Bird will not be directing the next 'Star Wars' movie despite being heavily touted.

Brad Bird has ruled himself out of directing the next 'Star Wars' movie.
The Oscar-winning director - known for his work on films including 'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol' and animated classic 'The Incredibles' - was hotly tipped to take on the job of filming the seventh film in the series, but has now confirmed he is working on an alternative sci-fi picture.
Answering a series of questions on his twitter page, he said: ''Nope, a science fiction film. Not Star Wars. It's not Episode VII. (sic)''
When fans added he would be the perfect person to work on it, he said: ''Thanks. But the science fiction film I AM doing is gonna be good (sic)''
However, he admitted he is looking forward to seeing what Disney do with the franchise.
He wrote: ''That said, Michael Arndt is a fantastic writer and Kathy Kennedy is a brilliant producer. I will be first in line to see the new STAR WARS. (sic)''
Meanwhile, Carrie Fisher - who played the iconic Princess Leia in the first three films - has hinted she may come back and marry Harrison Ford's character Han Solo.
She said: ''I like the idea of being Mrs Solo, and we've just fought and fought and I killed him - but I'm sorry.''

Brad Bird and Edgar Wright Endorse Christopher Nolan’s INTERSTELLAR

Oct 21 2014 1:49pm CDT | Source: Collider

Every Christopher Nolan film nowadays comes with high expectations, but the anticipation for Nolan’s sci-fi epic Interstellar is, shall we say, outta this world (I’m so sorry).  Interest is at a fever pitch for the film, which promises astonishing visuals, scientifically grounded inter-dimensional travel, and strong performances from Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain, etc.  As with all Christopher Nolan films, though, Interstellar has been shrouded in secrecy, so refreshingly we still ...

Pixar Confirms Peter Sohn as THE GOOD DINOSAUR Director with Teaser Video

Oct 20 2014 6:30pm CDT | Source: Collider

The folks at Pixar are no stranger to significantly overhauling their films during production—Ratatouille and Toy Story 2 were both essentially started over from scratch when Brad Bird and John Lassetter replaced the previous directors, respectively—but The Good Dinosaur has been a curious case.  The film was initially planned as Up co-director Bob Peterson’s first Pixar film as principal director, but Peterson was rem ...

See ‘RoboCop’ Behind the Scenes Photos From New Official Book

Oct 20 2014 3:00pm CDT | Source: slash film

When it comes to modern sci-fi movies, RoboCop has to be one of the best. Part machine, part man, the 1987 film by Paul Verhoeven is a satirical, violent masterpiece. At its center is the gorgeously designed, iconic lead character who returned for two much lesser sequels, and was redesigned for a reboot released earlier this year. So how did RoboCop come to be? What’s the story behind the silver and chrome character? A new book called RoboCop: The Definitive History hits shelves Tue ...

‘The Simpsons’ Parody Stanley Kubrick in ‘A Clockwork Yellow’

Oct 20 2014 11:15am CDT | Source: slash film

Sunday on Twitter, former Simpsons consultant Brad Bird said “In The Simpsons universe, Christmas comes at Halloween; all stops are pulled, budgets are increased, no holds are barred.” He was referring to the show’s annual Treehouse of Horror event, which celebrated its 25th anniversary on Sunday. The highlight of the show’s three segments (all of which were pretty fantastic) was A Clockwork Yellow. The story reimagined Moe, Homer, Lenny and Carl as Alex and his droogs from Stanley Kubrick‘ ...

VIDEO: Brad Bird Explains Why He Turned Down ‘Star Wars Episode VII’

Brad Bird had a big decision, one many film fans would love to have to make. TOP 5: TOMORROWLAND Trailer, THE JUDGE, GHOSTBUSTERS Reboot Confirmed with Paul Feig & Female Cast, WHIPLASH, The TRUE DETECTIVE Effect

Oct 11 2014 3:35pm CDT | Source: Collider

Highlighting a movie from a horror icon's filmography that was generally well received isn't exactly a reach, but somehow I still feel as if Sam Raimi's Drag Me to Hell doesn't get the praise it deserves. The 2009 release stars Alison Lohman and Justin Long in a simple tale of a bank loan officer who is cursed by an elderly woman after denying her an extension on a mortgage payment. The conceit may be straightforward, but Lohman's stellar performa ...
