Quentin Tarantino praises 'cowboy' Jamie Foxx

Nov 19 2012, 12:06am CST | by

Quentin Tarantino thought it was a no brainer to cast Jamie Foxx in his new western 'Django Unchained'.

Quentin Tarantino cast Jamie Foxx in 'Django Unchained' because he was a real ''cowboy''.
The 'Kill Bill' director immediately called off auditions for his gun-wielding western as soon as he met Jamie since he fit the lead role perfectly - and even had his own horse.
Quentin told Playboy magazine: ''I met six different actors and had extensive meetings with all of them, and I went in-depth on all of their work. Idris Elba, Chris Tucker, Terrence Howard, M.K. Williams Tyrese. They all appreciated the material, and I was going to put them through the paces, make them go off against one another and kind of put up an obstacle course.
''And then I met Jamie and realized I didn't need to do that. He was the cowboy... Forget the fact that he has his own horse - and that is actually his horse in the movie. He's from Texas; he understands... He understood what it's like to be thought of as an 'other.'''
Will Smith was also a close contender for the role of Django, a freed slave who treks across America on a revenge mission, but the director and the funnyman came to the agreement he wasn't ''100 per cent right'' for the part.
Quentin added: ''We spent quite a few hours together over a weekend when he was in New York doing 'Men in Black III'. I think half the process was an excuse for us to hang out and spend time with one another. It just wasn't 100 per cent right, and we didn't have time to try to make it that way.''
'Django Unchained' opens in the UK on 18 January 2013 and also stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Samuel L. Jackson.

Martin Scorsese Celebrates Kodak’s Decision to Keep Making Film

Aug 4 2014 1:09pm CDT | Source: Collider

Last week Christopher Nolan, Quentin Tarantino, J.J. Abrams and Judd Apatow banded together in an effort to convince studios to buy a set amount of Kodak film over the next few years (Kodak being the only major company left producing motion-picture film).  Now Martin Scorsese is tossing his hat in the ring as well.  While digital filmmaking is obviously going to be the way most movies are shot in the future, it’s nice to at least have the mea ...

We’ve witnessed the perks of technological advancements in cinema over the past decade, but there has been a downside. As digital media usurps film-based cinema, some companies are struggling to survive — like the famous Eastman Kodak. The Wall Street Journal reports that “Kodak's motion-picture film sales have plummeted 96% since 2006, from 12.4 billion linear feet to an estimated 449 million this year.” The numbers are staggering, which is why a group of Hol ...
