Joseph Gordon-Levitt: Lincoln was no saint

Nov 16 2012, 4:03am CST | by

Joseph Gordon-Levitt appreciates the fact Steven Spielberg's 'Lincoln' doesn't portray the US President as a ''saint''.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is glad 'Lincoln' doesn't portray the former US President as a ''saint''.
The 'Inception' star plays Abraham Lincoln's son Robert in Steven Spielberg's upcoming biopic and is pleased the character of Lincoln, played by Daniel Day Lewis, has his ''personal flaws'' shared with the audience.
He explained: ''I like that this movie doesn't turn Lincoln into a saint. What he accomplished in abolishing slavery was a truly great thing; but this movie also shows the compromises he had to make, the things that he had to do that were questionable in order to accomplish that goal.
''History is made by human beings and I like that this story portrays Lincoln as a human being with personal flaws and hypocrisies as well as real strengths and virtues.''
Joseph, 31, thought Steven was the ''perfect'' person to take on the job since he is so passionate and praised the director's choice of focus for the film, which recounts the iconic President's final months in office rather than following him from birth to death.
He added to FlicksandBits.com: ''I think it's an incredibly profound and compelling image of this moment in history. Steven Spielberg has a unique way of diving into the American zeitgeist and reflecting it in cinematic form.
''And obviously, the story of Abraham Lincoln is a prominent story in American culture. I think he's the perfect guy to do it and he was clearly enjoying it, he was so in his element. It was fun to see a director having so much fun, it doesn't always happen that way.''

Neil Gaiman Explains ‘Sandman’ Absence From DC Movie Slate

Oct 21 2014 8:30am CDT | Source: slash film

When Warner Bros. announced a ten-film slate of DC Comics films last week, taking the studio all the way to 2020, you might have noticed one big omission. There was no Sandman, which we know Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been developing over much of 2014. But worry not (or continue to worry, if you’re afraid of the film), as Sandman creator Neil Gaiman says things are still moving along, and that we can expect another announcement. In short, Sandman isn’t ...

Why Sandman Isn't on DC Comics' Movie Sched

Oct 20 2014 4:58pm CDT | Source: ign

Neil Gaiman has assured fans that The Sandman's absence from Warner Bros.'s slate of DC Comics-based movies doesn't mean that the adaption is in trouble, explaining it's a Vertigo film. He also hints that more Vertigo movies may be announced in the future. We've known since last year that an adaption of Gaiman's The Sandman -- starring and possibly also directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt -- was in the works, with previous rumors suggesting it was coming out in Dece ...
