Joseph Gordon-Levitt: Lincoln was no saint

Nov 16 2012, 4:03am CST | by

Joseph Gordon-Levitt appreciates the fact Steven Spielberg's 'Lincoln' doesn't portray the US President as a ''saint''.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is glad 'Lincoln' doesn't portray the former US President as a ''saint''.
The 'Inception' star plays Abraham Lincoln's son Robert in Steven Spielberg's upcoming biopic and is pleased the character of Lincoln, played by Daniel Day Lewis, has his ''personal flaws'' shared with the audience.
He explained: ''I like that this movie doesn't turn Lincoln into a saint. What he accomplished in abolishing slavery was a truly great thing; but this movie also shows the compromises he had to make, the things that he had to do that were questionable in order to accomplish that goal.
''History is made by human beings and I like that this story portrays Lincoln as a human being with personal flaws and hypocrisies as well as real strengths and virtues.''
Joseph, 31, thought Steven was the ''perfect'' person to take on the job since he is so passionate and praised the director's choice of focus for the film, which recounts the iconic President's final months in office rather than following him from birth to death.
He added to FlicksandBits.com: ''I think it's an incredibly profound and compelling image of this moment in history. Steven Spielberg has a unique way of diving into the American zeitgeist and reflecting it in cinematic form.
''And obviously, the story of Abraham Lincoln is a prominent story in American culture. I think he's the perfect guy to do it and he was clearly enjoying it, he was so in his element. It was fun to see a director having so much fun, it doesn't always happen that way.''

Sep 23 2014 2:20pm CDT | Source: First Showing

It's mostly the same trailer, but cuts out the extended profane bits. However, there is some solid new footage of James Franco showing his dimwitted side as talk show personality ...

Why "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For" should have done better.

Sep 8 2014 4:19pm CDT | Source: movie pilot

I’m disappointed by the second Sin City film, but not in the way you think.Last night, after weeks of trying to find someone willing to go with me, I FINALLY got to see Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. I am a fan of the first film, as well as most of Frank Miller’s movie adaptations (except from a HUGELY underwhelming second 300 movie), therefore it was natural that I was eagerly anticipating the release of A Dame to Kill For.Reports of box off ...

SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR Review

Aug 21 2014 2:48pm CDT | Source: Collider

In 2005, Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's Sin City was an interesting novelty.  The directors were able to transfer Miller's visually distinct comics to the screen through the heavy use of CGI.  Not adapt; transfer.  The comic was used as a storyboard, and the directors filled in the gaps by casting a bunch of recognizable actors to play the roles.  For people who argue that adaptations should never stray from the source material, 2005 ...
