Jack Nicholson is being courted to play Robert Downey Jr.'s father in 'The Judge'.
Warner Bros. has reportedly made an unofficial offer to the 75-year-old veteran actor to star in the drama/comedy, being developed by Robert's Team Downey production company.
The film will see a successful lawyer, played by Robert, returning to his hometown for his mother's funeral only to discover his estranged father - the town's judge, who is stricken with Alzheimer's disease - is the main murder suspect.
The lawyer decides to represent his dad in court, and in the process finds something new and more decent within himself and reconnects with the family he walked out on years before.
Jack is notoriously picky when it comes to the acting roles he takes - having only made only seven films in the last decade - so it may be hard to get him on board, but sources are hopeful he will commit and say he is due to meet Robert this week.
The script was originally written by Nick Schenk and is to be given a rewrite by Bill Dubuque. David Dobkin is rumoured to be in the frame to co-produce and direct.
Robert has recently finished filming 'Iron Man 3' and is said to want 'The Judge' to be his next film.
