Jake Gyllenhaal thought filming 'End of Watch' was traumatic.
The 31-year-old heartthrob experienced scenes of extreme violence while preparing for David Ayer's harrowing new cop drama as well as undergoing five months of intense preparation on patrol with real Los Angeles policemen.
He told the Telegraph newspaper: ''Once, outside a motorcycle club, a large man had been shot up. He had about 10 bullets in him, but was cognisant and talking.
''We saw a lot of stuff, a lot of violence, and without a doubt this has had more of an impact on me on than anything I have done before.''
The 'Donnie Darko' star confessed working with writer-director David - a former LA gang member - was life-changing and says he now understands the post-traumatic stress that police officers suffer from.
Jake explained: ''It's changed things for me in so many ways, not least in how I regard the police. People talk about post-traumatic stress with soldiers coming back form war, but no one thinks about cops on patrol and what they deal with. I had no idea what these guys, or their spouses, go through.
''And also, on a personal level, making the movie transformed my view of Los Angeles. It made me fall in love with the place again.''

Happy Halloween, readers, and welcome back to the Poster-Crop Quiz! This week, in honor of the release of Nightcrawler, we thought we'd take a look back at our favorite lovable villains. In the spirit of Halloween, and much like Jake Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler, these monsters, madmen, and criminals simultaneously attract and repel us. We know we're supposed to root against them, but we can't help but admire (or even adore) them.  See if you can identify ...

Review: Dan Gilroy's 'Nightcrawler' a Creative, Clever & Creepy Thriller

Oct 31 2014 9:39am CDT | Source: First Showing

Beyond the glitz and glamour, there's a darkness surrounding Los Angeles that captivates moviegoers when it's presented in film. Writer/director Dan Gilroy understands this and realizes the darkness in its truest form with Nightcrawler, a crime drama that not only dishes on the grimiest of LA grime, but revels in it. With equal parts style, wit, and discomfort - the latter getting the slight edge, especi ...

Darren Bousman, Neil Marshall & More to Tell 'Tales of Halloween'

Oct 30 2014 5:26pm CDT | Source: First Showing

The offerings on the big screen for Halloween this weekend are pretty weak with the only straight-up horror film in wide release being last weekend's holdover of Ouija. But if you're looking for a fun, thrilling, crazy ride, you should definitely check out Nightcrawler with Jake Gyllenhaal. However, it seems appropriate as All Hallow's Eve approaches that we get news of a holiday centric horror anthology in the works. Following in the footste ...

‘Nightcrawler,’ ‘Ouija’ To Pick Over Slim Halloween Pickings: Box Office Preview

Oct 30 2014 1:05pm CDT | Source: Deadline

Halloween is typically a frightful time for the box office, but with it landing on a Friday, the big studios are avoiding the weekend like a black cat. That will leave Open Road's newcomer Nightcrawler and Universal's Ouija in its second frame to pick over the remains left by trick-or-treating parents and costume-clad weekend partiers. Likely to lead the flimsy Halloween parade is Nightcrawler, Jake Gyl ...

One Final Red Band Trailer for 'Nightcrawler' Gets Wicked & Wild

Oct 26 2014 10:21am CDT | Source: First Showing

When it comes to conventional horror thrillers in theaters this Halloween, there's not much to choose from (our own Jeremy K. Kirk says Ouija isn't very good at all), but Jake Gyllenhaal and his latest film Nightcrawler looks like it might offer a nice alternative to the usual slashers and supernatural terror. Gyllenhaal plays an aspiring crime journalist who decides to do whatever it takes to get his stories on the nightly new ...
