Steven Spielberg gave Day-Lewis free rein in Lincoln

Steven Spielberg didn't want to ''get in the way'' of Daniel Day-Lewis' ''amazing'' acting in 'Lincoln' so he let the 'Gangs of New York' star have a free reign at portraying former US President Abraham Lincoln.

Steven Spielberg didn't want to ''get in the way'' of Daniel Day-Lewis' ''amazing'' acting in 'Lincoln'.
The 65-year-old director chose not to question the 'Gangs of New York' star, who portrays former US President Abraham Lincoln in the film, nor screenwriter Tony Kushner, when the movie was being created because he preferred to ''celebrate'' their work.
He said: ''I think Daniel, like Tony Kushner, understood Lincoln on a subatomic level, one that goes beyond anything I could articulate. I never asked Daniel about his process, I never questioned it; I never looked the gift horse in the mouth. I just received it with tremendous gratitude.
''With Daniel and Tony, I felt I was in between two giant figures in the landscape of theatre and performances and I was constantly saying to myself, 'Don't get in the way; celebrate these words, capture these performances, get it in the best way you know how.' And let the actors cast their long shadows. He's amazing.''
While Steven loved Tony's screenplay for 'Lincoln' - which is based on the best-selling book 'Team of Rivals' by historian Doris Kearns Goodwin - he had to cut down his first effort as it was nine hours long.
He added to FlicksandBits.com: ''When I got into the screenplay it was one of the most brilliant things I've ever read, but it was sprawling and epic and it was nine hours long, it was just impractical as a motion picture.''

What We Learned (and Didn't Learn) from the New 'Interstellar' TV Spots

Sep 29 2014 5:12pm CDT | Source: yahoo

The broad outlines of the plot are clearer: The Earth is experiencing a life-ending ecological disaster and an intrepid group of astronauts (including Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway) are sent on a last-ditch mission to find a new haven for humanity.  We definitely see more of the walking-Tetris-block contraption (above) that accompanies McConaughey as he surveys the alien planet — it seems to be a fusion of the self-stabilizing walking “dog” currently under development by ...

Robert Downey Jr. Has Father Issues in New THE JUDGE Trailer

Sep 17 2014 12:17pm CDT | Source: Collider

Warner Bros. has released a new The Judge trailer for director David Dobkin’s upcoming drama, and it goes rather heavy on the sentimentality.  Robert Downey Jr. plays an attorney who returns home for his mother’s funeral only to learn that his estranged father (Robert Duvall), a judge who suffers from Alzheimer’s, has been accused of murder.  Reviews out of the film’s TIFF premiere weren’t great and this trailer lays on the schmaltz pretty hard, but Downey Jr. still manages to be engagi ...
