Disney Sets Release Dates for Potential Projects in Works including Sequels.
Disney has gone ahead to claim release dates through to 2019 for their upcoming movies which are currently in the works.
Disney has become a major powerhouse over the last few decades. By buying out some of the major companies in Hollywood including Pixar animation, Lucasfilms and Marvel, it has become one of the biggest banners in Hollywood which has produced a multitude of hit movies since the start of the 21st century.
The Mouse House has been treading all the grounds to make some very logical choices. The banner has released movies with all of its accomplice studios and it is in to support major franchises from all studios. Marvel has already released a schedule for the ending of Phase 3 and the start of Phase 4 which spans all the way to 2020.
Lucasfilm is also hopeful to release Star Wars sequels in the coming years. Yes, Disney has been attached to these projects but it has also been releasing some original films based on the animated movies that it has released previously. The remakes/reboot of the animation movies into CGI feature films have been a successful venture in the Disney studios.
Whether it may be Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland movies, Angeline Jolie’s Maleficent or the recent commercial and critical success, Jungle Book. It has been proven in the past decade that the CGI feature fantasy films are doing quite well on the box office.
This might have encouraged Disney to go ahead and embrace the genre that they are iconic for. Fantasy based feature films which the studio will be producing over the next few years. Disney announced release dates for their upcoming projects which are under development.
The Untitled Disney Live Action movies which are spanned to release over 28 July, 2017 to 20th December, 2019, according to Variety. Disney also gave an overview of the projects in the development pipeline.
The studio confirmed that it is planning to make “Cruella,” an “101 Dalmatians” spin-off with Emma Stone, Ava DuVernay’s adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s “A Wrinkle in Time”, “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” with director Lasse Hallstrom (“My Life as a Dog”) and writer Ashleigh Powell attached; a Tinker Bell project with Reese Witherspoon set to star and Victoria Strouse (“Finding Dory”) writing; as well as sequels to “Jungle Book” and “Maleficent.”
Angelina Jolie is set to return for “Maleficent” with Linda Woolverton, the screenwriter on the first film, handling script duties. “Jungle Book” director Jon Favreau and writer Justin Marks are returning for another trip into the wild. Also mentioned was “Jungle Cruise” with Dwayne Johnson and writers John Requa and Glenn Ficarra and “Dumbo” with director Tim Burton and writer Ehren Kruger overseeing the elephant tale. Disney also said that they are planning a sequel to “Mary Poppins” with Emily Blunt and “Hamilton” creator Lin Manuel-Miranda starring and Rob Marshall as director.
The studios did not give confirm dates for the projects and any project could be dropped or delayed due to any reason but there will be releases of any one of them at any of the stipulated dates.
