Garth Davis is all set to make a Mary Magdalena movie as Rooney Mara in the role. He has been eyeing Joaquin Phoenix from sometime to cast him to pay the role of Jesus Christ.

Deadline reported that Phoenix is in talks with movie officials and it is about time that the deal will be finalized. If things go according to plan, one can assume to see a great venture on screen.

Joaquin Phoenix is known for experimenting with his roles and adapting to new situations. He is regarded as a talent box as far as his acting skills are concerned. His roles in “Inherent Vice” as a lone writer and in “Her” as a fine man with an obsession created a lot of onscreen history.

If he chooses to play Jesus, it will add more versatility in his roles. He won’t be requiring to change a lot in looks as he is pretty fit for the role physically.

Previous movies such as Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of Christ” was wonderfully written but the acting was pretty much lacking in that movie. With Joaquin Phoenix one can be assured that he would fill all acting voids with his super acting skills and devotion.

The role of Mary Magdalena will be done by Rooney Mara. Mary Magdalena is regarded as one of the greatest devotees of Christ in history. It is said that she saw his crucifixion and resurrection both at that time.

There are numerous movies that showed her character according to different views, some which were controversial. Mary’s character was recently seen in Dan Brown’s novel’s adaptation in “The Da Vinci Code”.

Helen Edmundson and Philippa Goslett will write the movie script while Davis will direct it. The movie will be released everywhere except Australia and New Zealand by Universal.
