Michael B. Jordan 'geeked out' about Fantastic Four casting

May 7 2014, 12:10am CDT | by

Michael B. Jordan ''geeked out'' when he was cast in the 'Fantastic Four' reboot.

The 27-year-old actor will play the Human Torch - a character who can absorb fire into his own body and is able to fly - in the forthcoming film and insists he and writer/director Josh Trank, who he previously worked with on 2011's 'Chronicle', acted like they were discussing their next ''science project'' when they were in talks about the production.

Talking to vibe.com, he enthused: I was like 'Oh shit. Man, that is ridic-- really? You want me to play that guy? Okay, cool.' It was just us two guys, two fanboys, just geeking out over the possibilities, or how it's going to be, and what we should do here, what we should do there, and the ideas we had for it. It just like two best friends just sitting there talking about our next science project. It was a lot of fun, a lot of excitement. I was excited. I was geeked.''

Although Jordan wants to make his portrayal unique he admits there are certain elements of the beloved superhero which he must stay true to.

He added: ''There are certain characteristics that people look for in the Human Torch that makes him unique. You gotta respect the past a little bit, and you also gotta respect the present and the future and give your own take.''

He will be joined by Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm aka The Thing, Miles Teller as Mr. Fantastic and Kate Mara as the Invisible Girl.

No "Fantastic Four" Presence At Comic Con

Jul 23 2014 10:54am CDT | Source: Dark Horizons

There's no official announcement, and some comments from actor Michael B. Jordan indicated it was unlikely. Now, producer Simon Kinberg has one and for all put to bed the speculation about Josh Trank's upcoming "Fantastic Four" reboot appearing at the San Diego Comic Con this week. Kinberg tells Latino Review that the reason for the absence is purely one of practicality - they're still filming, on a very tight deadline, and there just isn't any ...

‘Fantastic Four’: Michael B. Jordan Talks Filming & Family Themes

Jul 18 2014 2:17pm CDT | Source: Screen Rant

Josh Trank’s upcoming comic book movie reboot The Fantastic Four has caused a frankly impressive amount of hubbub already, considering we haven’t yet seen so much as an official set photo. From the backlash over casting choices like Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell to rumors that Dr. Doom was going to be played by a woman (he’s not), this is one movie that just doesn’t seem capable of doing anything right in the eyes of some Marvel fans. Admittedly Twentieth Century Fox’s Fantastic Four ...

Michael B. Jordan Says THE FANTASTIC FOUR Script Is “Evolving” on Set; Doesn’t See the Characters as “Superheroes”

Jul 18 2014 1:11pm CDT | Source: Collider

Though 20th Century Fox hasn’t officially revealed everything it will be bringing to Comic-Con next weekend for its big Hall H panel, most are expecting to see at least something from The Fantastic Four.  The comics adaptation is currently in production in Louisiana in anticipation of a June 19, 2015 release date, so this year’s Comic-Con is the film’s big chance to reach the fans in a massive way.  We still know very little about the pic beyond the fact t ...

Michael B. Jordan Calls The Fantastic Four 'Not Your Typical Superhero Film'

Jul 18 2014 12:11pm CDT | Source: Coming Soon

Little has been said about Fox's upcoming The Fantastic Four since production began in New Orleans, though it's possible we might see something out of them at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. In the meantime, star Michael B. Jordan, who plays Johnny Storm/The Human Torch in the film, was asked about the upcoming reboot in a discussion ...

Michael B. Jordan On "Fantastic Four" Secrecy

Jul 18 2014 11:26am CDT | Source: Dark Horizons

Michael B. Jordan's casting as Johnny Storm in the "Fantastic Four" reboot brought with it plenty of reaction, far more than any of his co-stars, and surprisingly not a lot was gushing despite the young actor's impressive pedigree. Subsequently the upset over his casting has died down as concern has grown instead over the project as a whole and how director Josh Trank's vision seems to be taking a larger than expected departure from the comics. It has gotten s ...

Michael B. Jordan Says ‘Fantastic Four’ Is Changing On The Fly

Jul 18 2014 11:16am CDT | Source: Slash Film

Director Josh Trank and the Fantastic Four have been quietly filming their big Marvel movie in Louisiana for the past few months. I say “quietly” for two reasons. One, we haven’t seen a lot of set photos of the stars in costume or anything. And two, co-star Michael B. Jordan agrees. In a new interview with MTV, the actor talked about filming the movie as being in “our own world.” He also talked about how Trank is changing the movie on the fly and that it’s less about superheroes and more abo ...

‘Fantastic Four’ Clarification: Not Based on One Specific Comic Story

Jul 16 2014 9:00pm CDT | Source: screen rant

Although Fox has been planning the upcoming reboot of The Fantastic Four since 2009, the new franchise didn’t start gaining traction until Josh Trank (Chronicle) was hired to direct in 2012. Aside from the discussion of whether it’s too soon to reboot the characters, The Fantastic Four production has been rife with controversies. Between the casting choices (specifically Michael B. Jordan as the Human Torch), the script, and the manner in which Marvel has handled Fantastic Four, Fox’s upc ...

Does It Matter That The Fantastic Four Movie Isn't Based on the Comic Books?

Jul 16 2014 3:01pm CDT | Source: movie pilot

Twentieth Century Fox released two Fantastic Four movies to very little fanfare in the 2000s. While both films made the movie studio a substantial amount of box office money, they were also pretty bad movies, as the film franchise took a hiatus in 2007. Fox decided to reboot the film series with a new movie in 2015. The possibility that Fantastic Four might crossover with the X-Men in a shared cinematic universe would lead the movie studio to endless options to maxi ...
