Kevin Costner praises Chris Pine

Jan 24 2014, 10:08am CST | by

Kevin Costner says Chris Pine ''understands'' the responsibility of being the male lead in 'Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit'.

The 59-year-old actor was complementary of his co-star - who took over the role of Jack Ryan from previous franchise stars Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck in latest film - and thinks he carried himself well while they were filming the thriller.

During an interview with denofthegeek.com, Costner said: ''He controls himself really well on set. He knows what he's doing. He understands this kind of 'leading man' responsibility. He's 6 ft and he's white and there's this certain kind of thing that you have to do.''

Oscar-winning star - who was cast as Thomas Harper - thinks it's difficult to be the protagonist since you can't get ''away with all the tricks'' which can be used when playing an eccentric character or a villain.

He added: ''It's a kind of thing you learn how to do without doing lisps and accents and limps. You can't get away with all the tricks you get to play as a character actor.

''Sometimes as a leading man what makes you almost boring is that you've got to stand there and take people through the movie. You don't get to do what all the people who play the bad guy or the eccentric get to do. It's hard sometimes, because you go, 'Am I doing enough here?' It's not an easy thing, which is why there aren't a lot of guys who can fill those shoes.''

They say in Hollywood that everyone who is an actor or actress, really wants to direct. It's an old saying, that has almost become cliche.  Many actors and actresses do try to helm their own movies, and more often than not, it does not work out all that well.  Others, do it as brilliantly as some of our most esteemed directors and several have even won Oscar gold for Best Director in the proce ...

Alexa Davalos Cast in Amazon’s ‘The Man in the High Castle’ TV Series

Sep 9 2014 5:30pm CDT | Source: slash film

The Man in the High Castle is among the more well-known Philip K. Dick novels, perhaps because it explores a premise many people have perhaps mused upon at some point in their lives: what if Germany and Japan won World War II? The novel is set in the early ’60s in an America that is occupied in the east by Germany and in the west by Japan, with a stretch of “free” land in the middle. Years of development attempts have so far failed to yield a TV or film a ...

What's that? Pierce Brosnan needs a new action franchise now, 12 years after his James Bond stint ended? There's a series of novels ripe for the action genre taking that would suit him perfectly? Let's make that deal. But The November Man, from the novels by Bill Granger, ends up being more than a run-of-the-mill spy thriller. Aided by some superb action directing from Roger Donaldson and a nice turn from its charismatic lead, the film trump ...
