J.J. Abrams: Star Wars script is finished

Jan 20 2014, 4:24am CST | by

J.J. Abrams has confirmed the 'Star Wars: Episode VII' script is finished.

The filmmaker says he and screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan have completed the screenplay for the upcoming sci-fi film ahead of schedule.

Speaking at the Television Critics Association's press tour, Abrams said: ''We're working really hard and we've got our script and we're in deep prep. We're full steam ahead.''

Abrams and Kasdan took over writing duties from 'Little Miss Sunshine' scribe Michael Arndt - who left the project over creative differences - last year.

The 'Star Trek' helmer also revealed he has been in talks with 'Breaking Bad' actor Jesse Plemons for one of the leading roles in the new 'Star Wars' film.

He said: ''He is one of the actors that we've talked to but it's not often that I read about actors that I'm going to be meeting.

''I get to read articles about actors who are going to come in. And so I get to see someone and say, 'Oh, I read that I was going to see you!' ''

Abrams dismissed the likelihood of the seventh chapter being shot with IMAX, although he would use it ''in the right situation''.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the director explained: ''The problem with IMAX is that it's a very loud camera. It's a very unreliable camera. Only so much film can be in the camera.

''You can't really do intimate scenes with it. It's slow. They break down often. But we're going to be shooting this next movie on film.''

'Star Wars: Episode VII' is due out on December 18, 2015.

TV Review: ‘Star Wars Rebels’

Sep 29 2014 9:30am CDT | Source: variety

Perhaps the “Star Wars” franchise’s worst-kept secret during the second-trilogy era is that its best screen depictions have come via TV animation. Inaugurating the Disney-synergy juggernaut before director J.J. Abrams can get there, “Star Wars Rebels” continues this trend, offering a sly, stylish offshoot — introducing a new lineup of characters very ...

STAR WARS EPISODE VII Concept Image Depicts Epic Lightsaber Duel

Sep 26 2014 9:38am CDT | Source: Collider

Another day, another image from Star Wars: Episode VII, but this one just happens to be the best thing I've seen from the movie so far.  It depicts a lightsaber duel under the Millenium Falcon with a Darth Vader-like figure fighting a Rebel with a green lightsaber.  It's epic looking, and for a second I get excited but then I remember the prequels and how flat they were visually (not to mention ...

New Concept Art Reveals STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Chrome Trooper

Sep 25 2014 1:48pm CDT | Source: Collider

Remember last month when some genuine concept art from Star Wars: Episode VII started popping up, revealing the new Stormtroopers and the costume designs for Han Solo?  Well the same source is at it again, as they’ve now revealed a Chrome Trooper image by way of even more concept art.  Thankfully this isn’t incredibly spoilerly, but it’s neat to see how director J.J. Abrams is making the franchise his own by tweaking some very familiar designs.  The Millenniu ...

STAR TREK 3 Might Include William Shatner… If He Decides to Show Up

Sep 22 2014 5:39pm CDT | Source: Collider

I remember the friction between William Shatner and J.J. Abrams before the release of Star Trek reboot in 2009.  If I recall, there were some awkward exchanges (and even videos) bandied about regarding Shatner's displeasure with his cameo being cut.  For whatever reason he didn't appear in Star Trek Into Darkness either, but now there's a sliver of hope to confuse the timeline even more in Star Trek 3. Apparently writer/potential director Roberto Orci has writte ...

Hulu Takes Bad Robot’s 11/22/63 Series; J.J. Abrams and Stephen King to Executive Produce

Sep 22 2014 1:55pm CDT | Source: Collider

Even though J.J. Abrams is currently busy in a galaxy far, far away, he’s still got time to turn back the clock to November 22, 1963 to explore what might happen if someone got the opportunity to go back in time and stop the assassination of President John F. Kennedy because it was just announced that Hulu gave the adaptation of Stephen King’s 11/22/63 a direct-to-series order. Bad Robot, King, executive producer-writer Bridget Carpenter and Warner Bros. Televis ...

Another Stephen King story is coming to the small screen. 11/22/63, which J.J. Abrams‘ Bad Robot optioned for TV last year, has just received a straight-to-series order from Hulu. But there’s a supernatural bent — the protagonist is a modern man who travels back in time to try and prevent the tragedy from ever taking place. Hit the jump for more on the 11 22 63 TV series. The STAR WARS: EPISODE VII and BATMAN V SUPERMAN War Continues with a First Official Look at the Return of the Millennium Falcon

Sep 18 2014 11:05am CDT | Source: Collider

Directors J.J. Abrams and Zack Snyder have been going back-and-forth online by parodying their respective blockbusters, Star Wars: Episode VII and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.  Snyder struck the most recent blow by showing a Stormtrooper getting arrested for hi-jacking Batman's ride.  Abrams has retorted in a way that will be tough to top.  He's stolen the Batmobile back and placed it on the underside of the Millennium Falcon.  And this isn't just a cutesy li ...
