Toronto, Canada, January 19, 2014 --(PR.com)-- “Jersey Queens” is a short film about a group of inner city women who roller skate. The film has launched its crowd funding page at http://www.gofundme.com/jersey-queens in order to raise funds to complete production. Some of the best “Rhythm” skaters in the United States come from the New Jersey area and this film aims to spotlight that fact.
Writer/director Stephen Campbell chose to create a story about a group of female roller skaters after seeing how adept at roller skating many of the female skaters were in the area. “In my opinion female Rhythm skaters from New Jersey are some of the best in the country and often better than a lot of their male counterparts at skate tricks such as the 'crazy legs'.” In fact, female skaters in the Newark area have a distinct skate style that is very enviable. These skaters are constantly forming groups at local rinks such as Skate 22 and Branch Brook Park where they wear colorful outfits to “rink parties.” These women have formed a strong bond and sense of community through roller skating and this film hopes to highlight that fact.
“Jersey Queens” has started preliminary filming and plans to continue filming in February. The film hopes to receive is funding goal of $5,000 by the end of January 2014. The completed short film should be ready in March 2014 and screen at film festivals in the New Jersey/New York and Toronto areas. The films creator plans on pitching the idea for a show on network TV.
