Donald Sutherland wants Hunger Games inspired revolution

Donald Sutherland hopes 'Hunger Games: Catching Fire' will inspire a revolution in America.

The 78-year-old actor stars as tyrannical President Coriolanus Snow in the film sequel - which is based on Suzanne Collins' post-apocalyptic novel which sees protagonist Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) forced to fight other oppressed citizens in the fictional state of Panem to survive a world which is ruled by a dictatorial government.

Sutherland thinks the youth today are too preoccupied with technology to bother organising a revolution to help better the problems in the US.

He told The Guardian newspaper: ''I hope that they will take action because it's getting drastic in this country [America]. You know the young people of this society have not moved in the last 30 years. They have been consumed with telephones. Tweeting.

Hopefully they will see this film and the next film and the next film and then maybe organise. Stand up.''

Sutherland says 'The Hunger Games' trilogy deals with issues of inequality, power and hope and wants people to understand the message of the books and films is important and be inspired to change the world in which they live in.

Sutherland - whose son is '24' star in Kiefer Sutherland - said: ''It just puts things out in the light and lets you have a look at it. And if you take from it what I hope you will take from it, it will make you think a little more pungently about the political environment you live in and not be complacent.''
