Christian Bale worried he 'f***ed up' Batman audition

Nov 19 2013, 10:16am CST | by Bang Movies

Christian Bale worried he ''f***ed up'' his Batman audition because of his voice.

The actor's incarnation of the caped crusader was defined by his deep, gravelly voice, however, Bale admits he wasn't sure how the accent went over with producers when he first read for the part.

He recalled: ''I went home that evening, and my wife said, 'How'd it go?' I went, 'I kind of did this.' And I showed her and she went, 'Oh, you f***ed that one up, didn't you?' Thank God they went for it.''

Bale - who starred in Christopher Nolan's 'The Dark Knight' trilogy between 2005 and 2012 - also revealed that he adopted the gruff voice because he felt ridiculous standing in a latex Batman costume and wanted to give the character some weight.

He told MTV News: ''I got there. They put me in [former Batman] Val Kilmer's suit. It didn't even fit properly and I stood in it and I went, 'I feel like an idiot.' What kind of guy walks around dressed like a bat, and is then going to go, 'Hello, how are you? Just ignore that I'm dressed as a bat.'

''I went 'I can't do this in a normal voice. I have to become a beast in order to sell this to myself.' ''

With the British actor now retiring his Batsuit, 'Argo' star Ben Affleck will take over the Batman role in the upcoming 'Man of Steel' sequel and Bale thinks his successor should find his own voice for the role.

He added: ''The voice ain't for everybody. Ben's obviously going to have to do his own thing, but it was the only way that I could find how to get into that and to justify wearing the fricking Batsuit.''

Sep 22 2014 8:53am CDT | Source: Collider

The film has been in development for years with Ed Zwick (Glory) previously set to direct with Henry Cavill and Benjamin Walker attached to play the leads.  However, that plan crumbled, and Zwick eventually left to go direct Pawn Sacrifice, so Zhang Yimou (Hero) stepped in.  The story—based on an idea by Legendary Pictures CEO Thomas Tull and World War Z author Max Brooks—explores the mystery of why the Great Wa ...

Here's Another Reason Ben Affleck is Perfect for Batman v Superman

Sep 18 2014 5:12am CDT | Source: movie pilot

When Ben Affleck was announced as our new Batman, there were a lot of people out there who thought he was, to put it mildly woefully miscast. And so Batfleck was born, with a horde of angry forum posts and memes trailing in his wake. For those of you who still can't see J-Lo's former paramour bringing the Dark Knight to sufficiently dark and brooding life, though, we might just have found the one thing that can change your mind. No, not Christian Bale...Whether or not tha ...

Terminators 2 And 3 Are Already Officially A Thing - And Have Release Dates

Sep 8 2014 3:31pm CDT | Source: movie pilot

If you're like me, then you're feeling a little wary about where the direction of the Terminator franchise is heading after Terminator Salvation gave us a decent plot but a terribly ham-fisted, deus ex machina ending that not even Christian Bale could save. It wasn't quite as bad as the waste laid to the hearts of Star Wars fans in the wake of Jar Jar Binks and the prequels, but it was still enough for ...

Take actress Karen Gillan, for example. The redheaded Scottish stunner shaved her head for her role as the evil Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy, one of the year’s biggest hits.  While not perhaps on the same level of physical transformation that Robert De Niro and Christian Bale have underwent for some of their roles, sacrifi ...

Ridley Scott On "Exodus" Casting, New Pics

Aug 28 2014 11:45am CDT | Source: Dark Horizons

There's been some minor controversy over the casting of Ridley Scott's upcoming Biblical epic "Exodus: Gods and Kings" and its use of Caucasian actors to play the key roles of the Egyptian royal family. Now Scott himself has finally discussed the issue in a chat with Yahoo, saying the choices he made for the roles were very carefully done. Even so, it's a dismissive answer: "Egypt was, as it is now, a confluence of ...
