Thor: The Dark World 'embraces' humour

Oct 21 2013, 10:24am CDT | by Bang Movies

'Thor: The Dark World' has a balance of humour and drama.

The new comic book movie - which sees Chris Hemsworth reprise his role as the titular superhero - will feature many funny scenes, and director Alan Taylor admits he felt he had to up the ante following the comical scenes in 2012's 'The Avengers' and 'Iron Man 3' earlier this year.

He explained: ''I felt my first task was to darken the world, and deepen it, and dirty it up a bit. And then as we got into the process, I thought, if we're going to darken it, deepen it and possibly kill off characters we love, we better be darn sure there's balance on the other side.

'''The Avengers' came out while we were starting it and 'Iron Man 3' came out while we were finishing it, so you were screwed if you don't also keep it funny and light on its feet. It's called 'The Dark World', but humour was critical on it.''

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was also pleased with the humour in the flick and feels it is imperative in grounding the film for the audience.

He added to BANG Showbiz: ''Humour is definitely the key. We've got spaceships in this movie and other planets in this movie, and we've found that humour is an amazing way to get the audience to just embrace and accept all those worlds, all that craziness and costumes. It's worked for us going all the way back to the first 'Iron Man' film.''

'Thor: The Dark World' is out in the UK on October 30.

When Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron was filming in London last summer, I got to visit the set along with a few other reporters.   Like most Marvel set visits, they let us talk to the entire cast and watch filming.  While the production was guarded about what they were willing to tell us, we learned a ton of cool secrets behind what’s bound to be one of the biggest films of 2015.  In The Avengers sequel, Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsw ...

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Concept Art Reveals James Spader’s Ultimate Form

Oct 24 2014 11:07am CDT | Source: Collider

After the unexpected trailer release this week, we sort of got the idea of what Avengers: Age of Ultron would look like.  But what we didn't get was a super clear image of Ultron's final design in the film (most of the footage of him appears to center on his incomplete form).  But now some concept art has hit that rectifies that issue.  In the film, Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hulk (Mark Ru ...

James Spader Says AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON’s Titular Villain Is a “Powerful, Smart Child” and “Batshit Crazy”

Oct 23 2014 2:44pm CDT | Source: Collider

Yesterday, fans finally got a look at Avengers: Age of Ultron, which was dominated by James Spader voicing the eponymous, evil robot.  The highly-anticipated sequel looks much darker than the first, and obviously a large part of that comes from an intimidating villain.  If audiences are going to buy Ultron as a true threat—and, let's face it, someone as charismatic as Loki—then it's going to come from Spader. Thankfully, the actor has a strong understanding of how he ...

First official trailer debuts for Avengers: Age Of Ultron: watch now

Oct 23 2014 12:43am CDT | Source: Total Film

Earlier than expected, the first official trailer has arrived online for Avengers: Age Of Ultron, in which our heroes line up for battle against the titular robotic foe. The trailer kicks off in similar style to the Avengers: Assemble trailer, with Loki’s “you were made to be ruled” speech replaced by the unnervingly mechanical tones of James Spader’s Ultron. There’s a huge amount to absorb following that, but watch out for Iron Man’s Hulkbuster armour, Cap’s bro ...
