Stallone: Schwarzenegger was 'the guy' for Escape Plan

Oct 15 2013, 1:24pm CDT | by Bang Movies

Sylvester Stallone says Arnold Schwarzenegger was the obvious choice to star opposite him in 'Escape Plan'.

The veteran action hero claims it was a no-brainer teaming up with his fellow muscleman for the upcoming thriller - about a structural engineer who is tries to escape a prison of his own design after being wrongly convicted of a crime.

Stallone told Nuts magazine: ''After I read the script I knew 'Escape Plan' was the one. The most important thing when planning a movie - who are the players? Who's gonna be your competition and your antagonist and eventually your buddy in this thing? Arnold, of course! When he complied, it was green-lit immediately. There was no one else considered, he was the guy.''

Austrian-born Schwarzenegger - who put his film career on hold to hold office as the Governor of California from 2003 until 2011 - had been waiting for the perfect opportunity to team up with Stallone in an action movie for a number of years.

He said: ''For me it was all about the chance to work with Sly. We were trying for decades to make a movie together and finally we found the right story. Yes, we did 'Expendables', but this was starring alongside each other throughout the whole movie.''

The Hollywood heavyweights claim their real-life relationship is just as competitive and testosterone-charged as their on-screen partnership.

Stallone joked: ''We're very competitive and everything we've accomplished in our lives has been through struggle and overcoming the odds because we're just not willing to settle for second best.

''Rarely do you get two personalities like this working together. We're just a couple of old warhorses and more than a little alpha territorial.''

SABOTAGE Blu-ray Review

Jul 16 2014 8:00am CDT | Source: Collider

Arnold Schwarzenegger Sighting At Innsbruck
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s return to the big screen can’t be called much of a comeback as The Last Stand, Escape Plan and Sabotage were all bombs.  Sabotage tanked the hardest as it was barely able to cross the ten million dollar mark.  Perhaps Arnie will regain his footing from his role in the upcoming Terminator sequel, but it seems unlikely that he will ever front a non-sequel again (or at least for another five years).  That’s too bad as Sabotage is a fun throwback to his early eightie ...

Natalie Portman Visits "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon"
Ever since the idea of Mars One spread over the mass media like jelly on toast, it turned out that at least 70 000 people are in love with Mars - so much that they're ready to leave our humble Earth forever, and spend the rest of their lives on that planet-sized desert. While this is no doubt a great opportunity and an extraordinary leap for science and social development, it opens a lot of questions of value, like "Why dreams want to take us to another world?" ...

Freditorial: How Movies & TV Warp Our Relationships, But They Don't Have To

Jun 8 2014 11:34pm CDT | Source: movie pilot

"The Long Shrift" Opening Night - After Party
Movies and TV once had me worried I was doing relationships wrong. Then life showed me a better way. From the tragedy of the USCB shooter, I’m glad we’re finally having a discussion about entitlement as it relates to misogyny, and the media’s effect on our expectations. Entitlement, combined with a lack of compassion, leads to anger and violence. My hope is these conversations can remain compassionate, because if movies are making someone feel like they are deprived or missing out, th ...
