Jake Gyllenhaal found it 'difficult' working with snakes

Sep 27 2013, 12:12am CDT | by Bang Movies

Jake Gyllenhaal found it ''difficult'' to deal with the snakes in 'Prisoners'.

The 32-year-old actor - who plays Detective Loki in the thriller drama - wasn't keen on working with the real-life reptiles on set and despite initially thinking he would be working with CGI - Computer Generated Imaginary - he admits being around up to 10 of the slithery creatures made the movie more believable.

Speaking on UK daytime show 'Lorraine' this morning (26.09.13), he said: ''We had to deal with real snakes and real people - it was a difficult job. I think the reality of the movie was really important. I think a movie like this can go very easily into the genre elements or it can go quickly into the unbelievable.''

The star - who is known for taking on complex roles - previously admitted he prefers to take on a role that has a hidden depth because he likes something that he can get his teeth into.

He said: ''I look for something in the story that offers love in a more complicated way. I don't look for darkness, whatever that means, but in my mind, darkness acknowledges great light too.

''I think when it comes to a character, I'm moved by folk that I might struggle to love at first; characters that I have to do enough research on and think enough about to be able to really fall in love with them. Recently, in particular, that's what's been happening. I love Detective Loki. I found it hard to let him go.''

Rene Russo Talks NIGHTCRAWLER, If Her Character is a Victim or Villain, Future Projects, and More

Nov 3 2014 9:49am CST | Source: Collider

Now playing in theaters is Nightcrawler, the stunning feature debut from writer/director Dan Gilroy.  The film centers on Lou Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal) an ambitious and morally malformed young man looking to find his fortune. When Bloom stumbles onto the world of “nightcrawlers”, film crews who capture footage of violent tragedies and sell it to the highest bidder, he finally finds his calling.  As Nina Romina, the ethically bankrupt news director who buys Bloom's footage, Rene Russo ...

Q&A: ‘Nightcrawler’s Dan And Tony Gilroy On Media Ugliness In The Digital Age

Nov 2 2014 9:59am CST | Source: Deadline

I'm surprised to be on the receiving end of questions when I get on the phone with Dan and Tony Gilroy, who with their editor brother John made Nightcrawler. This is a nightmarish wild drama that opened Friday, a savage indictment of plummeting standards and morals in journalism, personified by Jake Gyllenhaal's sleazy sociopathic hustler who makes a Sammy Glick-like rise selling foot ...

‘Nightcrawler’ Tops Unlively Halloween Weekend With $13 Million

Nov 1 2014 10:13am CDT | Source: Variety

Jake Gyllenhaal’s “Nightcrawler” was the only sign of life at the box office. Halloween weekend was a ghost town for new releases, giving the Open Road thriller an easy win. The film was runner-up to the supernatural thriller “Ouija” on Friday when it opened to $3.2 million, but will creep its way to the top,... Read more » ...

'Nightcrawler' Director Dan Gilroy Explains the Scariest Thing About Modern News Media

Oct 31 2014 4:01pm CDT | Source: movies.com

Nightcrawler is the most intense movie you can see in a theater this Halloween night, and it's not even a horror movie. It's about a strange man named Lou (Jake Gyllenhaal, giving one of the best performances of the year) who discovers a new career path: filming grizzly crime scenes and selling the footage to local news outlets. Since Lou doesn't really relate to society the way a normal person would, he ...

Interview: ‘Nightcrawler’ Director Dan Gilroy on Manipulation and Ditching the Character Arc

Oct 31 2014 2:15pm CDT | Source: Slash Film

It’s rare to see a directorial debut that is a total home run, but that’s Nightcrawler in a nutshell. The film’s writer/director, Dan Gilroy, is not, however, some rookie who got lucky. He’s been a screenwriter for years, with credits on films like The Fall, Real Steel and The Bourne Legacy. He was the writer on Tim Burton’s aborted Superman film with Nicolas Cage. And his family is in the business, too: bro ...

Oct 31 2014 2:04pm CDT | Source: movies.com

Happy Halloween, readers, and welcome back to the Poster-Crop Quiz! This week, in honor of the release of Nightcrawler, we thought we'd take a look back at our favorite lovable villains. Review: Dan Gilroy's 'Nightcrawler' a Creative, Clever & Creepy Thriller

Oct 31 2014 9:39am CDT | Source: First Showing

Beyond the glitz and glamour, there's a darkness surrounding Los Angeles that captivates moviegoers when it's presented in film. Writer/director Dan Gilroy understands this and realizes the darkness in its truest form with Nightcrawler, a crime drama that not only dishes on the grimiest of LA grime, but revels in it. With equal parts style, wit, and discomfort - the latter getting the slight edge, ...

Darren Bousman, Neil Marshall & More to Tell 'Tales of Halloween'

Oct 30 2014 5:26pm CDT | Source: First Showing

The offerings on the big screen for Halloween this weekend are pretty weak with the only straight-up horror film in wide release being last weekend's holdover of Ouija. But if you're looking for a fun, thrilling, crazy ride, you should definitely check out Nightcrawler with Jake Gyllenhaal. However, it seems appropriate as All Hallow's Eve approaches that we get news of a holiday centric horror anthology in the works. Following in the footsteps of films li ...

‘Nightcrawler,’ ‘Ouija’ To Pick Over Slim Halloween Pickings: Box Office Preview

Oct 30 2014 1:05pm CDT | Source: Deadline

Halloween is typically a frightful time for the box office, but with it landing on a Friday, the big studios are avoiding the weekend like a black cat. That will leave Open Road's newcomer Nightcrawler and Universal's Ouija in its second frame to pick over the remains left by trick-or-treating parents and costume-clad weekend partiers. Likely to lead the flimsy Halloween parade is Nightcrawler, Jake Gyllenhaal ...

Since it was founded, Seismic has played a major role in the creative marketing of some of Hollywood’s most influential and awarded movies.
