Jake Gyllenhaal likes hard to love characters

Sep 24 2013, 12:12am CDT | by Bang Movies

Jake Gyllenhaal likes to play hard to love characters.

The 32-year-old actor - who is known for taking on complex roles - admits he is always attracted to a part that has a hidden depth, like his latest Detective Loki, in 'Prisoners' because he likes something that he can get his teeth into.

Speaking to the Guardian newspaper, he said: ''I look for something in the story that offers love in a more complicated way. I don't look for darkness, whatever that means, but in my mind, darkness acknowledges great light too. I think when it comes to a character, I'm moved by folk that I might struggle to love at first; characters that I have to do enough research on and think enough about to be able to really fall in love with them. Recently, in particular, that's what's been happening. I love Detective Loki. I found it hard to let him go.''

The hunky star also spends a great deal of time researching his roles - watching 100 hours of footage of police interrogation for a three minute scene in 'Prisoners' - and even pushes his brain to the ''point of exhaustion''.

He explained: ''I don't think my approach to acting is all necessarily in service of the character. I think, selfishly, I've put it in service of myself, my perspective on the world and helping my life. I have an overactive brain and as a result of that, I can really get in my own mind. So I like to try and exercise it to the point of exhaustion. I think I took all the work from research but I used it therapeutically, too, in a strange way. I realised with that type of research how much it changed my life and what a wonderful thing the job of acting is, in that it can give you perspective on the fact that what you do really isn't that important at all.''

Sep 11 2014 1:39am CDT | Source: aintitcool

It is all in the headline and the big brain's review! Read the full article on AICN Take the gruesome, action-satire of Paul Verhoeven, the allure of the city after dark of Michael Mann, the subject matter and 70s adult drama sensibility of NETWORK, and the disturbing, maladjusted protagonists of Scorsese, and you are only beginning to get an idea of the cinematic DNA of NIGHTCRAWLER.  This isn’t to say it is derivative.  On the contrary, it may be the most original movie since D ...

Nightcrawler Review

Sep 6 2014 3:05am CDT | Source: ign

Nightcrawler is a dirty, grubby, creepy movie; the kind that makes you feel like you need a wash after the credits have rolled. It’s a film that has much to say about the madness of the modern media, about how society has encouraged that insanity, and about the dangerous fallout of mass unemployment. And it’s a masterful directorial debut from screenwriter Dan Gilroy (The Bourne Legacy) that features a grandstanding central performance from Jake Gyllenhaal. ...

Zac Efron As Superman? Actors Who Were Almost Superheroes!

Aug 20 2014 10:15pm CDT | Source: movie pilot

A lot of articles just repeat others, so I decided to dig deep to find old castings of people who were almost superheroes. Zac Efron As Superman!Zac Efron As Superman! Before Henry Cavil was officially cast as Superman in Man Of Steel, Zac Efron was one of the many people who were almost Superman. The way they casted this movie is if any of the actors could wear the original Christopher Reeves suit and not have the staff laugh than you would have been Superman! So lets just thank god that H ...

The November date in the poster above, for David Ayer‘s WWII tank squadron film Fury has been changed. But the good news is that the film’s date change isn’t a delay. Rather than opening the movie in November, Sony will now release Fury, which stars Brad Pitt, in October. The original release date for the film was November 14, but Fury will now open just shy of a month earlier, on October 17. The move puts the film squarely in competition with the li ...
