Hugh Jackman: Bryan Singer invented superhero

Sep 10 2013, 4:12am CDT | by Bang Movies

Hugh Jackman believes Bryan Singer invented the superhero genre.

The 44-year-old actor - who has reprised his role as Wolverine in Singer's upcoming film 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'- believes the 47-year-old film director has a lot of ''courage'' to combine emotion with action and insists he is the man behind the success.

Speaking to Access Hollywood, he said: ''I keep saying it's like two movies in one but the size of it, it's like three in one.

''Few people credit Bryan for what he deserves credit for, which is really inventing that genre. There wasn't really a superhero genre before 'X-Men' came out.

''The idea that you could really dive in to the emotional life, to the vulnerability of these characters and that, as well as being fantastical, amazing and action, is what's going to hook people and make them care. That's what Bryan did, he had a lot of courage to do that.''

The veteran actor has played the claw-wielding superhero a staggering six times on the big screen and it was previously reported he had been offered $100 million to star in four more Wolverine movies, but he appeared wary about accepting the offer as he didn't want to be locked into a mult-year deal.

A source said previously: ''Hugh has a very big decision to make. It's not every day an actor gets offered this kind of pay check, but Hugh vowed never to lock himself into any multi-picture deals after 'X-Men'.

''He hasn't given any kind of answer yet, so at least he's considering it.''

Why Superhero Movies Need Better Villains

Sep 12 2014 8:00am CDT | Source: ign

It's often said that a hero is only as strong as his villains. What's the point of a superhero who doesn't have evil to battle against, after all? Would Batman be as memorable if it weren't for villains like Joker, Two-Face, and Catwoman? Would Wolverine still be the best there is without Sabretooth or Mystique or Lady Deathstrike pushing him to persevere? Comic fans will agree that supervillains are ...

Shawn Levy Says He’s Been ‘Quietly Developing’ REAL STEEL 2

Sep 8 2014 5:24pm CDT | Source: Collider

We were talking Real Steel 2 well before the first film even came out, but now, three years later, we’re still without that sequel.  However, that doesn’t mean director Shawn Levy isn’t thinking about it.  In fact, he said he’s been “quietly developing” it for years now. The first film starred Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton, a washed-up boxer who turns to robot boxing to make a living.  After his robot is destroyed in a fight, Charlie’s stuck without a contender and with a si ...

Sep 8 2014 4:55pm CDT | Source: movie pilot

Pop quiz: Did you know that Real Steel grossed almost $300 million worldwide at the box office? What's that? No, I'm not mistaken. I'm definitely talking about the 2011 Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots-meets- Pacific Rim boxing robots movie starring Hugh Jackman. The movie was actually somewhat of a surprise, receiving an average review of "meh" at best for the plot and story, but lots of praise from audiences ...

Sep 4 2014 1:53pm CDT | Source: Collider

With X-Men: Days of Future Past being both a hit and much better than most people expected, the gears are moving fast for X-Men: Apocalypse.  As the title and the post-credits stinger at the end of DOFP imply, the primary antagonist will be the supervillain Apocalypse.  The story will follow the First Class gang along with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine into the 1980s.  We also know from the treatment page teased last month that the Four Horseman will again be making an appearance ...
