Hugh Jackman: Bryan Singer invented superhero

Sep 10 2013, 4:12am CDT | by Bang Movies

Hugh Jackman believes Bryan Singer invented the superhero genre.

The 44-year-old actor - who has reprised his role as Wolverine in Singer's upcoming film 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'- believes the 47-year-old film director has a lot of ''courage'' to combine emotion with action and insists he is the man behind the success.

Speaking to Access Hollywood, he said: ''I keep saying it's like two movies in one but the size of it, it's like three in one.

''Few people credit Bryan for what he deserves credit for, which is really inventing that genre. There wasn't really a superhero genre before 'X-Men' came out.

''The idea that you could really dive in to the emotional life, to the vulnerability of these characters and that, as well as being fantastical, amazing and action, is what's going to hook people and make them care. That's what Bryan did, he had a lot of courage to do that.''

The veteran actor has played the claw-wielding superhero a staggering six times on the big screen and it was previously reported he had been offered $100 million to star in four more Wolverine movies, but he appeared wary about accepting the offer as he didn't want to be locked into a mult-year deal.

A source said previously: ''Hugh has a very big decision to make. It's not every day an actor gets offered this kind of pay check, but Hugh vowed never to lock himself into any multi-picture deals after 'X-Men'.

''He hasn't given any kind of answer yet, so at least he's considering it.''

Chappie’s Family Revealed In Window Cling For Neill Blomkamp’s Latest [Comic Con 2014]

Jul 28 2014 2:00pm CDT | Source: slash film

After two movies filled with massive sci-fi action, it seems Neill Blomkamp is going a bit more emotional for his latest film. Sony very quietly kicked off the marketing campaign for Chappie at San Diego Comic-Con 2014, with a big banner and a window cling handed to fans as they walked by the booth. Most fans were confused by the swag, which shows a rudimentary drawing of two parents, one holding a gun, alongside a robot. But it’s an incredibly intriguing image for the March 2015 release ...

Comic-Con: Sam Raimi Vamps ‘Last Of Us’ Movie At Screen Gems Panel

Jul 25 2014 2:21pm CDT | Source: Deadline

Screen Gems today trotted out a Comic-Con god in Sam Raimi, who dealt the kind of catnip that fanboys love. Raimi was there with Neil Druckmann, creator of the Naughy Dog game Last Of Us, to talk about how that vidgame is being turned into a feature with Raimi producing, and Druckmann writing the screenplay. Screen Gems president Clint Culpepper, whose previous big vidgame to movie transfer was Resident Evil, has basically given over big creative controls to Druckmann in the mov ...

Meet Chappie in the First Poster For Neill Blomkamp's Action Comedy

Jul 24 2014 7:26am CDT | Source: movie pilot

Neill Blomkamp quickly established himself as the go-to-guy for gritty, realistic science fiction. District 9 was certainly an impressive debut effort from the South African director, while Elysium, although less well received, only bolstered his science fiction credentials. However, his next project, Chappie looks like it might do things slightly differently. Described as an action-comedy-drama, Chappie tells the ...

Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Chappie’ Poster Is at Comic-Con

Jul 22 2014 9:55pm CDT | Source: Slash Film

Neill Blomkamp‘s next film, Chappie, doesn’t have a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, but if this year is proving anything, it’s that panels aren’t the only way to raise awareness for a project. Sometimes something as simple as an evocative poster will do the trick. That’s exactly what Sony used in the case of Chappie, which stars Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver and Sharlto Copley. Check out the first Chappie poste ...

Jul 22 2014 4:26pm CDT | Source: Collider

Very little is known about District 9 and Elysium director Neill Blomkamp’s new film Chappie besides the fact that it revolves around a robot imbued with artificial intelligence who is stolen by two local gangsters, and producer Simon Kinberg called it “the most provocative studio movie you’ll likely ever see.”  Well it looks like Sony Pictures is ready to unveil this curious pic to the public, as the first look at the titular robot (played by Sharlto Copley) has been unveiled at San Diego ...

Kevin Feige Teases Possible Avengers / Guardians of the Galaxy Crossover

Jul 21 2014 9:30am CDT | Source: slash film

Guardians of the Galaxy takes place literally worlds away from The Avengers, and yet both superhero teams occupy the same universe at the same time and even know some of the same people. It wouldn’t be totally inconceivable for them to cross paths at some point, and recent comments from Kevin Feige suggest they may do just that. If you’re holding out hope for the either group to join forces with the X-Men, however, you’re probably out of luck. In the same i ...

’90s Redux: Bill Nighy May Be Broadway-Bound In Hare’s ‘Skylight’; `Master Class’ Helmer Mike Nichols Talks Shop for HBO

Jul 11 2014 9:58am CDT | Source: Deadline

The Union Jack will be flying over Broadway big-time this coming season, as talk heats up about bringing Bill Nighy, Carey Mulligan and the acclaimed National Theatre revival of David Hare’s Skylight to New York in the spring. I wrote a few weeks ago that while the production will be telecast in the fall by NT Live, far better would be the chance to see Hare’s extraordinarily moving play — about the expired romance between an ...
