Hugh Jackman: Bryan Singer invented superhero

Hugh Jackman believes Bryan Singer invented the superhero genre.

The 44-year-old actor - who has reprised his role as Wolverine in Singer's upcoming film 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'- believes the 47-year-old film director has a lot of ''courage'' to combine emotion with action and insists he is the man behind the success.

Speaking to Access Hollywood, he said: ''I keep saying it's like two movies in one but the size of it, it's like three in one.

''Few people credit Bryan for what he deserves credit for, which is really inventing that genre. There wasn't really a superhero genre before 'X-Men' came out.

''The idea that you could really dive in to the emotional life, to the vulnerability of these characters and that, as well as being fantastical, amazing and action, is what's going to hook people and make them care. That's what Bryan did, he had a lot of courage to do that.''

The veteran actor has played the claw-wielding superhero a staggering six times on the big screen and it was previously reported he had been offered $100 million to star in four more Wolverine movies, but he appeared wary about accepting the offer as he didn't want to be locked into a mult-year deal.

A source said previously: ''Hugh has a very big decision to make. It's not every day an actor gets offered this kind of pay check, but Hugh vowed never to lock himself into any multi-picture deals after 'X-Men'.

''He hasn't given any kind of answer yet, so at least he's considering it.''
