Samuel L. Jackson set for The Secret Service

Aug 2 2013, 4:39am CDT | by Bang Movies

Samuel L. Jackson will play the villain in 'The Secret Service'.

'The Avengers' actor has landed a leading role opposite Colin Firth in Matthew Vaughn's latest comic book adaptation, which is based on Mark Millar and David Gibbons' super-spy graphic novel series, according to Variety.

Jackson will play the main antagonist to Firth's expert secret agent and his young rookie protégé, to be played by newcomer Taron Egerton.

Vaughn - who previously directed another Millar comic book adaptation, 'Kick-Ass', as well as 'X-Men: First Class' - has been eyeing a big Hollywood name for the role, and previously offered the part to Tom Cruise and Leonardo DiCaprio.

The plot centres on a British spy who takes a brash young upstart under his wing and teaches him the tricks of the trade.

Vaughn co-wrote the script with his regular collaborator Jane Goldman - who co-wrote 'Stardust' and 'Kick-Ass' with him - and he will produce as well as direct through his Marv Films production company.

Attention now turns to finding the film's leading lady and it's thought producers are keen on 'The Bling Ring' and 'Harry Potter' star Emma Watson, but are also considering 'Dark Shadows' actress Bella Heathcote.

Jackson is currently filming Marvel comic book movie, 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier', reprising his role as S.H.I.E.L.D. leader Nick Fury. He will again play the role in 'The Avengers: Age of Ultron', which will be filmed next year for release in 2015.

'The Secret Service' is due to begin production later this year and will be released in November 2014.

It’s no secret that when an actor signs on to star in a Marvel Studios film, his or her contract also contains options to appear in X number of films for the studio.  The number varies from actor to actor (Samuel L. The Problem with Superhero Sagas: Why Treating Movies Like Television Is a Bad Idea

Aug 9 2014 3:13pm CDT | Source: Collider

When Marvel Studios started producing its own films with Iron Man in 2008, many in the industry and the public at large were quite sure that they would fail.  Headlines famously accused the comic book company of delving into its “second-tier superheroes” in order to compete with the likes of Batman and Spider-Man at the box office, and few could have predicted just how successful the studio's new venture would ...

Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons Talk KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE, Matthew Vaughn, Comics vs. Film, WATCHMEN, Future Projects, and More

Aug 8 2014 3:59pm CDT | Source: Collider

One of my most anticipated movies is director Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman: The Secret Service.  The story is based on the comic by written by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons about a veteran secret agent (Colin Firth) who takes a teen delinquent (Taron Egerton) from the streets of London, and brings him into a British spy school that molds its students into suave 007-types.  As a huge fan of what Vaughn did with X-Men: First Class and ...
