Del Toro plans to shock with Crimson Peak

Jul 1 2013, 10:18am CDT | by

Guillermo del Toro says 'Crimson Peak' will be ''shockingly different'' from his previous films.

The director claims his upcoming haunted house flick won't be for the faint hearted and will be far more terrifying and adult than any English-language film he has made before.

del Toro told ShockTillYouDrop.com: ''It's an adult movie, an R-rated movie, pretty adult. Shockingly different from anything I've done in the English language.

''Normally, when I go to do a movie in America for the spectacle and younger audience, for 'Blade' or whatever. This movie's tone is scary and it's the first time I get to do a movie more akin to what I do in the Spanish movies.''

The film - which is expected to star Jessica Chastain, Emma Stone, Charlie Hunnam and Benedict Cumberbatch - will be one of the 'Pacific Rim' filmmaker's most violent to date and will shock viewers with its unexpected bloodshed.

Del Toro added: ''It has moments that are very visceral, physical violence. You're in this sort of sedate romance and then there is this brutal moment where you're like, ''Whoa!' ''

The acclaimed filmmaker also hinted his modern day ghost story would play with conventions of the genre and allow him to put his own stamp on Gothic horror.

He said: ''The thing I do in those movies is re-contextualisation' take a movie and then move it into a completely different place. Like a Gothic and then move it into the Spanish Civil War ['The Devil's Backbone']. This is a Gothic romance, haunted house, in the north of England.''

The Strain: "For Services Rendered" Review

Aug 24 2014 10:04pm CDT | Source: ign

Note: Full spoilers for the episode follow. This first season of The Strain has been a herky-jerky viewing experience. The Guillermo del Toro-directed pilot had some spectacular imagery and creepy moments, but also featured the clunky dialogue and plot-convenient decision making by some characters that has dogged the series so far. That special attention to the horror aspect of the series has paid off ...

Hideo Kojima Explains That Mysterious Number in the P.T. Demo

Aug 22 2014 11:28am CDT | Source: ign

Hideo Kojima has explained one of the P.T. demo's mysteries: the name of the fake developer initially said to be developing the game, 7780s Studio. In a Japanese language Konami video, Kojima says that the sequence "7780s" is another way of saying "Silent Hills." 7780 is the postcode of the Shizuoka region in Japan. The name translates roughly to "Quiet Hills," and the region's name has become a nickname for Silent Hill in its nativ ...

El Rey Network has been doing some pretty cool things since it launched earlier this year (like recently signing a deal to broadcast 255 martial arts movies from the Shaw Brothers collection), but our favorite has to be their The Director's Chair series where Robert Rodriguez sits down some heavy hitter filmmaker friends for a lengthy interview. Most recently Guillermo del Toro sat in The Director's Chair and tonight (August 13, 9 PM EST) it will ...

"Constantine" Could Blend With Del Toro Film?

Aug 11 2014 10:27am CDT | Source: Dark Horizons

Whilst Marvel has one grand linked universe, DC and Warner Bros. Pictures are keeping things a bit looser when it comes to adaptations of their comic titles. This is especially true of their TV properties with four DC Comics-inspired TV series screening this Fall, but only two of them ("Arrow," "The Flash") linked together and none of them tied to any of the upcoming films. Meanwhile filmmaker Guillermo del Toro continues developing "Dark Universe, ...
