The screenwriter - who was hired to pen the script for the sequel to the 2012 sci-fi film - has revealed the movie will go ahead without him due to creative differences between him and movie studio 20th Century Fox.
Landis wrote on his Twitter account: ''I've been off Chronicle 2 for months now. Fox had a different direction they wanted to take the series, [director] Josh [Trank] was never attached.''(sic)''
He added: ''Chronicle 2 is still probably happening, just not with my involvement as of now. It's a bummer, but there are no real hard feelings. (sic)''
The writer's departure follows reports in April that his father, famed film director John Landis, had suggested Fox disapproved of his son's screenplay for the sequel
However, Landis disputed this and said he and the studio were working on a ''compromise'' for 'Chronicle 2' as the studio felt the script was too dark and wanted it re-written.
Now, however, the 27-year-old writer says he is ''ultimately grateful'' that 20th Century Fox made the first 'Chronicle' film as close to his script as possible, but new writers have been hired for the follow-up and should be announced soon.
He wrote: ''So yeah it's sad that as of right now I'm not involved in the sequel, and don't know what it's about even, but ultimately I can't complain. (sic)''
It's not confirmed whether DeHaan will return for the sequel, but Landis will now move on to work on his directorial debut, 'Me Him Her.'
