Johnny Depp almost trampled by horse

Jul 8 2013, 12:12am CDT | by

Johnny Depp was almost trampled by a horse while filming 'The Lone Ranger'.

The 50-year-old star insisted on doing as many action scenes as possible in the Disney western but almost regretted it when he was thrown of his horse Scout, holding its mane as he was dragged for 25 yards.

He said: ''We'd been running the horses pretty hot that day and went down a couple of paths. That all worked out fine until we changed paths in order to get closer to the camera car. Scout decided to jump over a few obstacles. So yeah, user error.

''You would expect to be riddled with fear or adrenaline, but I saw everything very clearly, which was the horse's muscular front legs moving at a dangerous speed.

''I was still holding on to the mane like an idiot trying to get back up and at a certain point you have to make a decision, do I go down and hit the deck on my own? Or do I wait for the hoof to split my face in two? So I decided to go down on my own and then, incredibly, the horse lifted its front legs and he missed me.''

It was almost a fatal disaster for Johnny, who knows he could have been ''crushed'' - and despite the accident he wants to buy the horse.

He told the Mail on Sunday newspaper's Event magazine: ''He could have crushed me in seconds. I was lucky that the horse's instincts were good.

''I hit the deck and then stood up. Everybody was yelling at me, 'Stay down!' But I felt fine and just stood up and shook it off.

''After it happened they were a little skittish about putting me back on a horse for any stunts, but I did get back on and it was fine. And Scout is a very good horse. Really, he saved my life. I'm trying to buy him.''

Pirates of the Caribbean 5 Might Just Have the Best Villains Ever

Oct 15 2014 1:50pm CDT | Source: movie pilot

You know what we haven't seen in a little while? Another Pirates of the Caribbean movie. The last movie in the series, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides came out way back in 2011, which is practically a millennia in Hollywood years. Quite frankly, I thought that the fourth film would be the last for PotC. It fared well in the box office overall, but had the lowest earnings in North America out of all of the ...

Javier Bardem in Talks to Play the Villain in PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5

Oct 14 2014 2:52pm CDT | Source: Collider

Javier Bardem may soon be going from Bond Villain to Ghost Pirate.  While development on Pirates of the Caribbean 5 has been extremely slow, things are finally starting to pick up in anticipation of filming beginning in February 2015.  Directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki) were hired over a year ago, but then word went quiet as Disney worked to bring the budget down.  With Johnny Depp’s schedule cleared after he finishes Alice in Wonderlan ...

Javier Bardem in Talks for ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5′ Villain

Oct 14 2014 2:10pm CDT | Source: Slash Film

We’ve seen Javier Bardem play as bad as bad can be in No Country for Old Men, and we’ve recently seen him play a morally compromised but clear-eyed weirdo in The Counselor (above). And he’s explored exaggerated action-film villainy in Skyfall. Now he’s in talks to go into full-on cartoon villain mode for Pirates of the Caribbean 5. All the info we have on the potential Javier Bardem Pirates 5 deal is below. The Wrap had the news first, but THR fills out some details, saying “Bardem would pl ...

Tomorrowland: The Clip We Saw at NYCC Was...

... completely awesome. In case you were confused over the sheer bad-assery of George Clooney (who, upon crashing the Tomorrowland panel at NYCC during his honeymoon, claimed he may not have been invited to past comic-con events "because of that whole Batman thing... you know, the nipples.") Tomorrowland will most certainly give your mind a poke. hnnnggg.I attended the panel on behalf of Moviepilot, and after getting over the heart attack of seeing Hugh Laurie and Georg ...

Oct 2 2014 2:25pm CDT | Source: movie fanatic

Back when we were at Comic-Con rumors swirled that Joaquin Phoenix would be Dr. Strange. But given the constant rumors, some had Johnny Depp as Dr. Strange, we didn't think much of it. Although at first we thought it was a unique casting, over ...

Thanks to ‘Tusk’, Kevin Smith Has Funding for ‘Clerks III’

Sep 29 2014 2:30pm CDT | Source: slash film

Like almost all Kevin Smith films, Tusk has been incredibly polarizing. I found myself in the middle of the road, seeing great promise in a film with some major problems. Some loved the audaciousness of Smith’s horrific tale, while others just hated everything about it. Smith himself is very proud of Tusk, calling it the closest thing he’s ever done to what he imagined he’d be making as a filmmaker. The box office tended to agree with the haters. Over its opening weekend, Tusk only grossed ...
