Kick-Ass 2 hits back at Jim Carrey

Jun 24 2013, 10:30am CDT | by

'Kick-Ass 2' producer Mark Millar is ''baffled'' after Jim Carrey withdrew support of the film.

The actor - who plays Colonel Stars and Stripes in the superhero sequel - controversially claimed he couldn't support the film's release due its graphic violence following the Sandy Hook school shootings last year, however, the film's producer has hit back at Carrey suggesting that he was well aware he had signed up for a boundary-pushing movie.

Writing on his Millarworld website, he said: ''As you may know, Jim is a passionate advocate of gun-control and I respect both his politics and his opinion, but I'm baffled by this sudden announcement as nothing seen in this picture wasn't in the screenplay eighteen months ago.

''Yes, the body-count is very high, but a movie called 'Kick-Ass 2' really has to do what it says on the tin. A sequel to the picture that gave us Hit-Girl was always going to have some blood on the floor and this should have been no shock to a guy who enjoyed the first movie so much.''

The actor previously expressed his love of 2010's 'Kick-Ass', which starred Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Chloe Grace Moretz, and couldn't resist the opportunity to sign on for the sequel.

However, Carrey - who filmed his scenes for the action film last year - has now denounced the film following the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, last December, in which 20 children and six adults were killed.

He wrote on Twitter yesterday (23.06.13): ''I did Kickass a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence.

''My apologies to others involve with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart. (sic)''

'Kick-Ass 2', directed by Jeff Wadlow, is due for release in August.

Could Another Tim Burton Batman Movie Really Happen?

Oct 16 2014 6:44am CDT | Source: movie pilot

When it comes to the great missed opportunities of superhero cinema, there aren't many that loom larger than Tim Burton's Batman 3 - the film that never was.Batman Forever (the eventual third installment in the Bat-franchise) was fun and all - but it was also marked the beginning of a slide into light-hearted camp that culminated in Batman and Robin. Which, compared to the dark, moody, and gothic Burton films was...not quite right. The big question, then, is why didn't we get to ...

Sep 8 2014 5:21am CDT | Source: movie pilot

wI've been watching movies since the day I was born and I thought I would finally share my infinite film wisdom gained from many moons sitting on a couch with you good people so that they too may learn to leave permanent imprints in your furniture. Anyways, here's a list of the 10 movies I would watch on my death bed, if they can install a television in my death bed so I can watch them as my bed plummets down an enormous ramp at the speed of sound as I attempt ...

Chloë Grace Moretz Says Piracy Killed ‘Kick-Ass 3′

Aug 28 2014 10:30am CDT | Source: Slash Film

The original Kick-Ass made Chloë Grace Moretz a household name, but Kick-Ass 2 didn’t fare quite so well with moviegoers. Now Moretz says Kick-Ass 3 isn’t happening at all, and it’s all because of the “fanboys” who wouldn’t pay for the movie. Hit the jump to read her comments on Kick-Ass piracy. Moretz discussed the problem of Kick-Ass piracy in an interview with Digital Spy. Sadly, I think I’m done with the character. Hit-Girl was a very cool character, but I don’t think ...

The Piracy Excuse & Hollywood: Is This Why Kick-Ass 2 and The Expendables 3 Failed?

Aug 26 2014 1:57pm CDT | Source: movie pilot

One of the biggest trends I’ve been noticing as of late is a certain excuse actors and filmmakers make for their movies underperforming. According to several media outlets, Lionsgate is blaming a leaked version of The Expendables 3 for the weak $15 million opening it had. The leaked version was supposedly downloaded 5 million times according to the New York Times. In a recent interview, Chloe-Grace Mortez declared that the Kick Ass 3 movie was dead because of, once again, piracy. A ...
