Joss Whedon: Avengers 2 newcomers are 'textured'

Jun 18 2013, 10:24am CDT | by

Joss Whedon says 'Avengers 2' newcomers Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch will be ''textured''.

The director hinted the new villainous additions to the Marvel sequel about a team of crime-fighting superheroes will cause havoc for the motley crew - but will have a nicer side to them too.

Speaking in a podcast for Empire magazine, he teased: ''Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are very close to my heart because they were Avengers the whole time I was reading the book as a kid. Sometimes they were evil but sometimes they were good. They're very ... textured, they're very different from everybody else in the mix.

''They're not there to make things easier on The Avengers but what we do with the group once we've got them is squeeze. The fun I'm having doing that is probably unseemly.''

Joss - who confirmed Tom Hiddleston's villainous Asgardian god Loki won't be featuring in the follow-up film - also updated fans on the script's progress, revealing it already feels like the right tone has been set after the first draft.

He said: ''I've turned in a first draft. The story is very set, everybody's on board with the exact movie I'm trying to make which is what worked the first time. I said, 'I want to make this movie, a Marvel version of this movie.' And they said, 'Yay', and never looked back. Well they said, 'Maybe the tone', or, 'Maybe this structure' but once we had it, we had it. And I feel like we're there with 'Avengers 2' which is really important.

''There's still fine tuning to do on the script. There are many things that can be 'plussed' and be better and also, there's some science in it, which means I have scenes where someone says, 'Science the sciency science.' So I'm like, 'I'll fix that later.' ''

At this point, we only have a vague idea of what Avengers: Age of Ultron is even about. But now we know how it’s going to end, at least for one major character. Hulk and Hawkeye Get the Spotlight in New ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ Images

Aug 27 2014 12:20pm CDT | Source: Slash Film

If we had any complaint about the first Avengers, it was that there wasn’t nearly enough of Mark Ruffalo‘s Hulk or Jeremy Renner‘s Hawkeye. Fortunately, Kevin Feige has already promised to remedy that lack in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and the latest batch of images indicate that he plans to deliver. Hulk and Hawkeye figure prominently in these new stills, along with Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), and the guy who bosses ...

The Top 25 Horror Movies You Have To See! Scream, Saw, and more!

Aug 25 2014 3:10pm CDT | Source: movie pilot

I am a huge horror buff. For years, my friend and I have spent many an evening hunting down some of the most interesting, most terrifying horror movies around. This search has most often lead us to some really awful films. Films so bad we're not sure how they even convinced anyone to fund them. The search has also lead to a whole subgenre that has filled us with much joy – the crappy but still ...

Avengers 3: Is Marvel Killing The Magic?

Aug 15 2014 10:42pm CDT | Source: movie pilot

I can see the headline - "Guardians of the Galaxy Astounds with 165 million dollar debut!" Really, it is astounding because without promos who even knew who the Guardians of the Galaxy were. But you had the name "Marvel Comics" on the project so what did you expect? People flock to the theaters like stampeding cattle because its another Marvel movie and the reason why all comes down to The Avengers. Financially, the f ...
