Gary Oldman to step behind the camera for Flying Horse

Jun 17 2013, 10:22am CDT | by

Gary Oldman is returning to the director's chair with 'Flying Horse'.

The British actor is planning to helm his first feature film since 1997, a biopic about pioneering photographer Eadweard Muybridge, and is allegedly considering Benedict Cumberbatch and Ralph Fiennes for lead roles.

According to The Wrap, the film is set to focus on Muybridge's tumultuous personal life and not his innovative camera skills, which facilitated the advent of motion picture filmmaking.

The photographer famously murdered his love rival, theatre critic Major Harry Larkyns, when he discovered his own child might have been fathered by Larkyns, who was having an affair with his wife Flora.

A fan also recounted on her Tumblr page, FYeah Gary Oldman, that she had discussed his new project with the 'Harry Potter' actor during a chance encounter, during which he admitted he had already cast Fiennes as Muybridge.

She wrote: ''We talked a little about ... a screenplay he is working on about Eadweard Muybridge and that Ralph Fiennes has signed on the play him. I told him that Ralph was like my second favorite actor after him, and he jokingly said that next the time he came by he'd bring Ralph with him. (sic)''

It is being reported 'Star Trek Into Darkness' actor Benedict - who co-starred with Oldman in thriller 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy' - is being courted to play the Major.

Oldman has already written the script and hopes to begin production early next year. He is also expected to take on the small role of Dennis Spencer, the district attorney that prosecuted Muybridge, who was eventually acquitted of the crime due to ''justifiable homicide''.

The 55-year-old actor previously stepped behind the camera to helm the 1997 drama 'Nil by Mouth'.

Cinematic ‘Gotham’ Trailer Debuts: There’s a War Coming

Jul 26 2014 10:03pm CDT | Source: Screen Rant

Though anticipation for Gotham is high, there are challenges facing it as it tries to establish its own separate corner in the burgeoning DC television universe. Blessed with the enviable Batman rogues gallery, there is much potential, but without the use of Batman, Gotham will have to establish a bond with the audience through the eyes of a hero (Jim Gordon) who has always been more of an ancillary character, even as played by Gary Oldman in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight t ...

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Review: Hail Caesar!

Jul 11 2014 8:00am CDT | Source: movie fanatic

Matt Reeves could not have been a better choice to direct Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. It helps that Rise of the Planet of the Apes writers Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver and Mark Bomback penned the script. Rupert Wyatt did a fantastic job directing the first film in this “origins” series of the Apes saga, but there is a tone that Reeves lays out in his summer movie epic that truly suits a riveting second chapter. In fact, ...

Review: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Jul 11 2014 3:29am CDT | Source: Dark Horizons

Say what you want about their production values, particularly the cheesy, rubbery make-up the actors were forced to wear in the older films, but the "Planet of the Apes" series, at least thematically, is one of the best and most intelligent science fiction series ever created. Though not all were created equal, each movie had something fascinating to explore, but the first stands above the rest. With battling themes of scienc ...

Here is the final trailer for Fox‘s summer ape call. New Dawn of the Planet of the Apes TV Spot

Jun 12 2014 1:21pm CDT | Source: ign

As the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes draws nearer, a new TV spot, titled "Retaliate," provides a brief synopsis of the story that started in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. A decade has passed since the Simian Flu wiped out most of humanity, and a small band of survivors, led by former police officer Dreyfus (Gary Oldman), has struck a tenuous peace with the Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his colony of ever-evolving apes. However, that peace threatens to shatter ...
