Michael Shanon 'flabbergasted' by Man of Steel

Jun 17 2013, 12:18am CDT | by

Michael Shannon was ''flabbergasted'' by his 'Man of Steel' invite.

The star plays villain General Zod in the Superman reboot and admitted he signed on for the film without even being shown the script.

He told the Daily Telegraph Magazine: ''When I got a call from [director] Zack Snyder saying, 'Come to my house in Pasadena, I want to pitch you 'Man of Steel', I was a little flabbergasted.

''I wasn't aware that I was in that club. I didn't think anything like that would ever fall in my lap. So I went out there, and he didn't show me the script but he basically pitched the entire film.''

Recently the actor has spoken about how it would have been impossible to turn down the role despite it being the kind of he ''never thought'' he'd be involved in.

He previously explained: ''I can't fathom how people would say no to 'Man of Steel'. I thought they were pulling my leg... Then I got on set, and realised they were serious. I had no qualms about doing it. I loved it. It was a blast.

''It's a nice feather in my cap, for sure. It's not anything I ever imagined I would be a part of and I'm still trying to process it really.

''When I started acting, I never thought I would be in a Superman movie so it's pretty neat. I did some big blockbusters before, but never this prominent a role.''

99 HOMES Review | TIFF 2014

Sep 12 2014 8:26am CDT | Source: Collider

In my experience, home ownership is viewed as a right of passage in America.  We’ve heard of “the lawn with the white picket fence”, but no one celebrates living in the three-room apartment.  Our homes aren’t just where we keep our stuff or rest our heads.  They are part of our identity and more importantly, our family’s identity.  In the wake of the 2008 economic crash, that identity was ripped away as millions of homes were put into foreclosure.  In a ...

Prepping his Venice Competition title 99 Homes, helmer Ramin Bahrani says he was made “dizzy by the corruption” in the Florida foreclosure system. The film is set in 2010 Orlando and follows Andrew Garfield as an unemployed construction worker and single father whose family loses its home. Michael Shannon, who was warmly welcomed here in 2012's The Iceman, plays the real estate broker who evicts him. The pair ultimate ...

“Man of Steel” villain Michael Shannon and “The X-Men’s” Nicolas Hoult team up to save the world in Jake Paltrow’s post-apocalyptic “Young Ones.” Or at least, they’re trying to save their dry stretch of the wastelands. Now all they need is a little bit of water… Check out the first trailer for Paltrow’s film, which sort of just showed up out of nowhere. Or maybe it’s been hiding itself until now. Either/or. It looks pre ...

The Future Looks Bleak for Michael Shannon & Nicholas Hoult in the 'Young Ones' Trailer

Aug 21 2014 8:33pm CDT | Source: movie pilot

The post apocalyptic film is quickly becoming this generation's equivalent to the Western. The similarities are too obvious to ignore, plus the themes speak to much of what is happening currently. The newest addition to the genre is Young Ones, directed by Jake Paltrow (the brother of Gwyneth) and sports an extraordinarily talented cast. It stars Michael Shannon (Man of Steel), Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: Days of Future Past), Elle Fanning (Maleficent), and Kodi Smit McP ...
