Drew Pearce to script Mission: Impossible 5

May 15 2013, 5:20am CDT | by

'Iron Man 3' co-writer Drew Pearce will pen 'Mission: Impossible 5'.

The scriptwriter has been given the task of writing Paramount's next installment in the action franchise, which Tom Cruise will star in as well as produce.

Christopher McQuarrie - who directed Cruise in 2012's 'Jack Reacher' - has entered negotiations to direct, while J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot company will produce the movie, whose plot is being kept secret.

The 'Mission: Impossible' franchise - which first hit screens in 1996 and stars Cruise as secret agent Ethan Hunt - is as popular as ever and has grossed more than $2 billion overall.

The fourth film in the series, 'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol', earned $700 million worldwide and became action veteran Cruise's highest-earning film ever.

The Brad Bird-helmed flick saw 'Avengers' star Jeremy Renner join the franchise while Simon Pegg reprised his role as technician Benji Dunn.

Production is expected to begin on 'MI:5' this autumn after Cruise finishes filming Warner Bros.' 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E.', a big screen adaptation of the cult 1960s TV show,

Scriptwriter Pearce is also working on Guillermo del Toro's much-anticipated 'Pacific Rim', as well as planning his directorial debut.

Star Wars Episode VII: Oscar Isaac Talks Star Wars Old & New

Sep 30 2014 2:21pm CDT | Source: movie fanatic

Oscar Isaac is a busy man since he scored the role of a lifetime in the Coen brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis. He has The Two Faces of January landing soon and of course, there’s that little independent film he’s shooting now in London that goes by the name of Star Wars: Episode VII. Isaac was talking to The Huffington Post about his upcoming projects and the state of his career, and naturally the conversation turned to the galaxy far, far away. And although he ...

STAR TREK: THE COMPENDIUM Blu-ray Review

Sep 30 2014 10:51am CDT | Source: Collider

Paramount committed an egregious faux pas last year with its release of Star Trek: Into Darkness by sprinkling different extras on different Blu-rays.  If you bought your disc at Target, you got one set of extras.  If you bought it at Best Buy, you got a different set.  If you wanted all of them, you basically had to buy multiple copies of the same movie, then vent your fiery wrath across the Internet.  Trekkies hit the roof and with good reason: it to ...

TV Review: ‘Star Wars Rebels’

Sep 29 2014 9:30am CDT | Source: variety

Perhaps the “Star Wars” franchise’s worst-kept secret during the second-trilogy era is that its best screen depictions have come via TV animation. Inaugurating the Disney-synergy juggernaut before director J.J. Abrams can get there, “Star Wars Rebels” continues this trend, offering a sly, stylish offshoot — introducing a new lineup of characters very m ...

STAR WARS EPISODE VII Concept Image Depicts Epic Lightsaber Duel

Sep 26 2014 9:38am CDT | Source: Collider

Another day, another image from Star Wars: Episode VII, but this one just happens to be the best thing I've seen from the movie so far.  It depicts a lightsaber duel under the Millenium Falcon with a Darth Vader-like figure fighting a Rebel with a green lightsaber.  It's epic looking, and for a second I get excited but then I remember the prequels and how flat they were visually (not to mention narratively).  Then I get excited ...

New Concept Art Reveals STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Chrome Trooper

Sep 25 2014 1:48pm CDT | Source: Collider

Remember last month when some genuine concept art from Star Wars: Episode VII started popping up, revealing the new Stormtroopers and the costume designs for Han Solo?  Well the same source is at it again, as they’ve now revealed a Chrome Trooper image by way of even more concept art.  Thankfully this isn’t incredibly spoilerly, but it’s neat to see how director J.J. Abrams is making the franchise his own by tweaking some very familiar de ...

STAR TREK 3 Might Include William Shatner… If He Decides to Show Up

Sep 22 2014 5:39pm CDT | Source: Collider

I remember the friction between William Shatner and J.J. Abrams before the release of Star Trek reboot in 2009.  If I recall, there were some awkward exchanges (and even videos) bandied about regarding Shatner's displeasure with his cameo being cut.  For whatever reason he didn't appear in Star Trek Into Darkness either, but now there's a sliver of hope to confuse the timeline even mor ...

Hulu Takes Bad Robot’s 11/22/63 Series; J.J. Abrams and Stephen King to Executive Produce

Sep 22 2014 1:55pm CDT | Source: Collider

Even though J.J. Abrams is currently busy in a galaxy far, far away, he’s still got time to turn back the clock to November 22, 1963 to explore what might happen if someone got the opportunity to go back in time and stop the assassination of President John F. Kennedy because it was just announced that Hulu gave the adaptation of Stephen King’s 11/22/63 a direct-to-series order. Bad Robot, King, executive producer-writer Bridget Carpenter and ...
