'Twilight' triumphs at Empire Cinema Alternative Movie Awards

Feb 27 2013, 10:10am CST | by

'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2' swept Empire Cinemas' first Alternative Movie Awards.

The final installment of the vampire franchise took five awards - including Best On-Screen Couple, Best Kiss and Best Villain - in the British cinema chain's first annual awards in which winners were voted solely by eager movie fans.

The film's stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart took home the prizes for Best Couple and Best Kiss for their roles as Edward Cullen and Bella Swan, while Taylor Lautner beat the likes of Channing Tatum and Chris Hemsworth to win Best Male Body.

Michael Sheen's antagonist Aro was voted Best Villain, while the movie also scored the Best Fight Scenes award over 'Skyfall' and 'The Dark Knight Rises'.

Jon Nutton, marketing director of Empire Cinemas said: ''The awards season is such a talking point in the film and cinema industry.

''We've created The Empire Cinemas Alternative Movie Awards to help celebrate film even more, but to also give film fans a voice and pick the winners of awards not generally seen at the big ceremonies. 'Twilight' was a huge success for Empire Cinemas and it's clear to see our cinemagoers agree, voting it the winner of five awards.''

Other big winners were singer Rihanna, whose on-screen debut in 'Battleship' earned her the Best Pop Star Performance nod, and recently crowned Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway took the nod for Best Female Body after donning a figure-hugging catsuit in last year's Batman film.

The Empire Cinemas Alternative Movie Award winners:

Best On-Screen Couple: Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2'

Best On-Screen Kiss: Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2'

Best Fight Scenes: 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2'

Best Film Villain: Aro (Michael Sheen), 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2'

Best Male Body: Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2'

Best Female Body: Catwoman (Anne Hathaway), 'The Dark Knight Rises'

Best Tear-Jerker: 'Les Miserables'

Best Film Hero: Snow White (Kristen Stewart), 'Snow White and the Huntsman'

Best Pop Star Performance: Rihanna, 'Battleship'

Oct 16 2014 2:08pm CDT | Source: movie pilot

I'm a sap for a good love story. Who isn't?That's why The Book of Life, 20th Century Fox's beautiful and surreal new animation, was a must-see. Toss in a little Guillermo del Toro (producing) and a one-two punch of Channing Tatum and Zoe Saldana (voicing lead characters) and you've got me.Directed by the ultra talented Jorge Gutierrez - a Mexican animator, painter, writer and director - The Book of Life feels like one long, mov ...

Sep 29 2014 3:47pm CDT | Source: Collider

I'm getting excited for Magic Mike XXL (despite the fact that Matthew McConaughey won't be returning).  And I'm excited even though original director Steven Soderbergh (who was able to guide his first film from a $7 million budget to a $167 million worldwide gross), won't be back either (actually he will, since he's shooting it under his alias Peter Andrews, which effectively provides new director Gregory Jacobs with the best sounding boa ...

‘Jupiter Ascending’ UK Trailer: Channing Tatum vs. Flying Alien Lizards

Sep 25 2014 3:27pm CDT | Source: Screen Rant

The Wachowskis’ breakout hit The Matrix definitely blew quite a few minds when it was released back in 1999, but for the most part its high-concept science fiction premise was kept grounded within the framework of the matrix itself. As such, a powerful Oracle was presented as a nice lady with cookies and a showdown between the chosen savior of humanity and an AI slavemaster took the form of a kung fu ba ...
