'Twilight' triumphs at Empire Cinema Alternative Movie Awards

Feb 27 2013, 10:10am CST | by

'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2' swept Empire Cinemas' first Alternative Movie Awards.

The final installment of the vampire franchise took five awards - including Best On-Screen Couple, Best Kiss and Best Villain - in the British cinema chain's first annual awards in which winners were voted solely by eager movie fans.

The film's stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart took home the prizes for Best Couple and Best Kiss for their roles as Edward Cullen and Bella Swan, while Taylor Lautner beat the likes of Channing Tatum and Chris Hemsworth to win Best Male Body.

Michael Sheen's antagonist Aro was voted Best Villain, while the movie also scored the Best Fight Scenes award over 'Skyfall' and 'The Dark Knight Rises'.

Jon Nutton, marketing director of Empire Cinemas said: ''The awards season is such a talking point in the film and cinema industry.

''We've created The Empire Cinemas Alternative Movie Awards to help celebrate film even more, but to also give film fans a voice and pick the winners of awards not generally seen at the big ceremonies. 'Twilight' was a huge success for Empire Cinemas and it's clear to see our cinemagoers agree, voting it the winner of five awards.''

Other big winners were singer Rihanna, whose on-screen debut in 'Battleship' earned her the Best Pop Star Performance nod, and recently crowned Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway took the nod for Best Female Body after donning a figure-hugging catsuit in last year's Batman film.

The Empire Cinemas Alternative Movie Award winners:

Best On-Screen Couple: Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2'

Best On-Screen Kiss: Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2'

Best Fight Scenes: 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2'

Best Film Villain: Aro (Michael Sheen), 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2'

Best Male Body: Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2'

Best Female Body: Catwoman (Anne Hathaway), 'The Dark Knight Rises'

Best Tear-Jerker: 'Les Miserables'

Best Film Hero: Snow White (Kristen Stewart), 'Snow White and the Huntsman'

Best Pop Star Performance: Rihanna, 'Battleship'

Oct 30 2014 4:44am CDT | Source: movie pilot

Now, with the news that, come 2017, we'll be seeing a genuine, bonafide, no-strings-attached Lego Batman Movie, spun off from The Lego Movie, it's fair to say that minifig-related over-excitement is downright everywhere.Which isn't all that surprising, because not only do we all love Batman - because...Batman - but this also means that we're guaranteed to get another solid, hearty helping of Will Arnett ...

New Coen Brothers Film ‘Hail, Caesar!’ Set for 2016; Synopsis Revealed

Oct 29 2014 7:00pm CDT | Source: slash film

The good news is, there’s a new Coen Brothers movie coming. The bad news is, you’ll have to wait over a year to see it. Hail, Caesar! is from writing/directing/producing siblings Joel and Ethan Coen, which automatically puts it atop whatever must-watch list you have going. The film is a comedy, and the third entry in the directors’  loose George Clooney-starring “idiot trilogy” which began with O, Brother Where Art Thou? and continued with ...

REVIEW: The Book of Life, Gorgeous And Magical, If Imperfect

I'm a sap for a good love story. Who isn't?That's why The Book of Life, 20th Century Fox's beautiful and surreal new animation, was a must-see. Toss in a little Guillermo del Toro (producing) and a one-two punch of Channing Tatum and Zoe Saldana (voicing lead characters) and you've got me.Directed by the ultra talented Jorge Gutierrez - a Mexican animator, painter, writer and director - The Book of Life f ...

Oct 8 2014 7:18pm CDT | Source: movie pilot

The Halloween season is upon us, and you know what that means. It’s time to get obsessed with all things creepy, crawly, and bump-in-the-night scary. With the release of the movie Annabelle, everyone at the Moviepilot office has been coming forward and unabashedly admitting a fear of all things dolls. Specifically the porcelain kind, but we try not to be exclusive when it comes to our mutual fears. When I was a kid I played with dolls constantly. But I decidedly chose ones of the non-terrifying ...
