'Twilight' triumphs at Empire Cinema Alternative Movie Awards

Feb 27 2013, 10:10am CST | by

'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2' swept Empire Cinemas' first Alternative Movie Awards.

The final installment of the vampire franchise took five awards - including Best On-Screen Couple, Best Kiss and Best Villain - in the British cinema chain's first annual awards in which winners were voted solely by eager movie fans.

The film's stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart took home the prizes for Best Couple and Best Kiss for their roles as Edward Cullen and Bella Swan, while Taylor Lautner beat the likes of Channing Tatum and Chris Hemsworth to win Best Male Body.

Michael Sheen's antagonist Aro was voted Best Villain, while the movie also scored the Best Fight Scenes award over 'Skyfall' and 'The Dark Knight Rises'.

Jon Nutton, marketing director of Empire Cinemas said: ''The awards season is such a talking point in the film and cinema industry.

''We've created The Empire Cinemas Alternative Movie Awards to help celebrate film even more, but to also give film fans a voice and pick the winners of awards not generally seen at the big ceremonies. 'Twilight' was a huge success for Empire Cinemas and it's clear to see our cinemagoers agree, voting it the winner of five awards.''

Other big winners were singer Rihanna, whose on-screen debut in 'Battleship' earned her the Best Pop Star Performance nod, and recently crowned Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway took the nod for Best Female Body after donning a figure-hugging catsuit in last year's Batman film.

The Empire Cinemas Alternative Movie Award winners:

Best On-Screen Couple: Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2'

Best On-Screen Kiss: Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2'

Best Fight Scenes: 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2'

Best Film Villain: Aro (Michael Sheen), 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2'

Best Male Body: Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2'

Best Female Body: Catwoman (Anne Hathaway), 'The Dark Knight Rises'

Best Tear-Jerker: 'Les Miserables'

Best Film Hero: Snow White (Kristen Stewart), 'Snow White and the Huntsman'

Best Pop Star Performance: Rihanna, 'Battleship'

Mad Max: Fury Road Footage Screened

Jul 26 2014 7:54pm CDT | Source: ign

Look, I’ve only been waiting 29 freaking years for a new Mad Max movie. So today’s Warner Bros. panel in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con was no big thing. Oh, wait. It was a huge thing because director George Miller’s long-awaited sequel to the classic apocalyptic series, Mad Max: Fury Road, was on hand. Mel Gibson is long gone now, but if you’re going to replace Mel, you couldn’t do any better than to go with Tom Hardy, who is reinventing Max Rockatansky in Fury Road. Charlize Theron, Nicho ...

JUPITER ASCENDING Comic-Con Panel Recap: Epic New Trailer Revealed

Jul 26 2014 1:57pm CDT | Source: Collider

One of my most anticipated films of this summer was writers/directors Lana and Andy Wachowski’s original sci-fi pic Jupiter Ascending.  I was bummed when Warner Bros. decided to push the movie to next February, but luckily that gave the studio the opportunity to shed more light on the film at Comic-Con 2014.  Earlier today in Hall H, star Channing Tatum took the stage to present the film’s excellent new trailer and ...

Among all the talk of sequels and adaptations, Warner Bros. also previewed one of their most intriguingly offbeat upcoming releases at Hall H on Saturday. Channing Tatum was on hand to reveal some new footage from Jupiter Ascending, the Wachowskis‘ first original sci-fi movie since the Matrix trilogy. Hit the jump to get a recap. The Jupiter Ascending footage shown at Comic-Con was essentially an extended trailer. We open on Mila Kunis, as Jupiter Jones, waking up disorient ...

THE BOOK OF LIFE Footage Review: Guillermo del Toro’s Animated Film Looks Outstanding

Jul 14 2014 4:55pm CDT | Source: Collider

Just yesterday I was doing a news update on Guillermo del Toro’s potentially upcoming Haunted Mansion and found myself marveling at the amount of projects he has in the pipeline, either as a director or producer.  And, as I was listing them off, I totally forgot to include The Book of Life.  That won’t be a problem now since I just got back from a footage presentation (along with a Q&A with del Toro and director Jorge Gutierrez) on the Fox Lot.  This mo ...
