Ben Affleck: I wasn't 'entitled' to Oscars nomination

Feb 25 2013, 4:20am CST | by

Ben Affleck was ''disappointed'' not to be nominated for the Best Director Oscar - until he saw who else had failed to make the shortlist.

The actor-turned-director - whose movie 'Argo' picked up the Best Picture prize at last night's (24.02.13) ceremony - quickly accepted he was not ''entitled'' to the honour, but admits he was upset when the nominations were first announced.

He said: ''Naturally I was disappointed, but when I look at the directors who weren't nominated, Paul Thomas Anderson or Kathryn Bigelow - who's just amazing - Tom Hooper, Quentin Tarantino, these are all directors who I admire enormously. It was just a very tough year.

''You know what? You're not entitled to anything.''

And Ben - who was in the audience to see 'Life of Pi' filmmaker Ang Lee pick up the best Director trophy - admitted he just felt ''honoured'' to be at the ceremony, particularly after scooping Best Picture.

He added backstage at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles: ''I'm honoured to be here, I'm honoured to be among these extraordinary movies, and I'm really, really honoured to win an Academy Award.''

Argo also triumphed in the 'Best Adapted Screenplay' and 'Best Editing' categories.

Oct 29 2014 3:16pm CDT | Source: movie pilot

Way back in 1982, the planet Earth was blessed with the wrinkly little Reese's Pieces loving Extra Terrestrial, aptly named E.T. While visions of E.T. generally come to mind when discussing the film, it's also impossible to forget his Earth- ...

Batsuit, Batvoice & More "Dawn" News

Oct 28 2014 2:05am CDT | Source: dark horizons

Much like the Schumacher Batman films, it seems Zack Snyder's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" will feature a second Batsuit which Bruce Wayne will be donning during the film. Batman-News.com reports that Ben Affleck sports a traditional Batsuit, the one we've already seen, for much of the film. However, he also slip on an armored Batsuit akin to the one from Frank Miller's acclaimed comic "The Dark Knight Returns". ...

Ouija Scares Victory Over John Wick: Weekend Box Office Report

Oct 27 2014 9:00am CDT | Source: movie fanatic

Despite some sub-par reviews, including our Ouija review, the horror flick based on the board game came in first place at the weekend box office with a $20 million debut. With Halloween next Friday, this should hardly be a surprise as it was the only new horror flick to open wide. The Keanu Reeves action flick John Wick also did pretty darn well, coming in second with $14.2 million, Reeves biggest debut in eight years (since The Day the Earth Stood Still). Hopeful the ...
