Jessica Chastain: Oscar nod is 'bittersweet'

Feb 19 2013, 10:27am CST | by

Jessica Chastain's Oscar nomination was ''bittersweet''.

The 31-year-old actress claims it's ''crazy'' her 'Zero Dark Thirty' director Kathryn Bigelow failed to receive a nomination for the 2013 Academy Awards' prestigious Best Director category, and although she is looking forward to the ceremony this weekend (24.02.13), she feels terrible she might pick up the Best Actress gong while Kathryn goes unrecognised.

Jessica told Digital Spy: ''We made this movie in multiple locations with over 100 actors, a massive crew, sometimes we were filming under very intense, very difficult circumstances and she never broke a sweat.

''She is a captain in every sense of the word. She is a great filmmaker, and it was a bittersweet moment to receive my Oscar nomination because to hear that she wasn't nominated was like a dart in my heart.

''My performance is so much because of Kathryn Bigelow.''

The sentiment was echoed by the CIA thriller's producer Megan Ellison last month when she took to Twitter in an angry rant to defend the film, which recounts the decade-long manhunt for Osama Bin Laden.

She posted: ''Kathryn Bigelow was robbed. So f****d up.#recount''.

'Zero Dark Thirty' is up for a total of five awards including Best Picture, but Kathyrn - who became the first female to win the Best Director statue for 'The Hurt Locker' in 2011 - lost out to Michael Haneke, Ang Lee, Steven Spielberg, David O. Russell and Benh Zeitlin in the category this year.

The contenders will battle it out for the win at the ceremony on February 24.

New Extended TV Spot for Interstellar

Aug 27 2014 11:02am CDT | Source: beyond hollywood

Check out a new minute-long TV spot for Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar.” I don’t think there’s anything here you haven’t seen already in the previous trailers, but hey, it’s Nolan and it’s sci-fi, and those are two of my favorite things these days. Take a look, take a lookers. Starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Ellen Burstyn, John Lithgow, Michael Caine, Casey Affleck, and Wes Bentley. Saving the worl ...

New TV spot arrives for Interstellar: watch now

Aug 27 2014 1:45am CDT | Source: Total Film

Warner Bros. has released a new TV spot to promote Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, in which Matthew McConaughey leads a team of astronauts on an Earth-saving mission to space. Saving humanity from extinction is the name of the game, so stakes are suitably high for what looks like another grandstanding piece of filmmaking from Nolan. Expect goosebumps aplenty… This latest spot doesn’t contain much in the way of new ...

INTERSTELLAR TV Spot Repurposes Old Trailer Footage to Remind You That This Movie Will Probably Be Good

Aug 26 2014 4:56pm CDT | Source: Collider

Warner Bros. has released a “new” Interstellar TV spot for writer/director Christopher Nolan’s upcoming sci-fi film.  The spot doesn’t actually contain any new footage, but instead just repurposes footage from the latest trailer in a new 60-second cut—and that’s fine by me.  Nolan usually does a fine job of keeping the major aspects of his films out of the trailers, but even The Dark Knight Rises wasn’t immune to WB’s need to show footage from the third act in the trailers lead ...

New ‘Interstellar’ IMAX TV Spot Looks Absolutely Stellar

Aug 26 2014 12:15pm CDT | Source: Slash Film

It almost seems a shame to post the new Interstellar IMAX TV spot here at /Film, because this is so obviously the kind of film that begs to be seen on the biggest screen possible. On the other hand, though, if sharing a dinky YouTube preview is what it takes to get people to see the full movie in a proper IMAX theater, then the net effect of that will be good. Besides, we admit, it’s just really hard to resist taking a peek at Christo ...

A pretty exciting China-backed project is taking shape.  It was announced earlier this year that Fast Five director Justin Lin had signed on to helm a $100 million 3D Shaolin Temple remake, and now Deadline reports that The Assassination of Jesse James and Killing Them Soflty writer/director Andrew Dominik will be writing the screenplay.  The original 1982 film was Jet Li’s big screen debut and took place ...
