Stand-alone Star Wars films confirmed

Feb 6 2013, 2:14am CST | by

Disney are planning some stand-alone 'Star Wars' movies.

The studio are currently working on the seventh, eighth and ninth installments of the popular sci-fi series, but have revealed writers Simon Kinberg and Lawrence Kasdan are also working on additional films that won't interfere with the on-going storyline.

Disney chief Bob Iger told CNBC: ''We plan to make 'Star Wars' 7, 8 and 9 over roughly a six-year period of time starting in 2015.

''But there are going to be a few other films released in that period of time, too.''

Last year, Disney splashed out $4 billion to but George Lucas' Lucasfilm and Bob admitted the price tag was based on the value of the main three movies and resulting product sales, not the potential money to be made from spin-offs.

He said: ''When we were exploring very seriously with George [the acquisition of Lucasfilm], the idea of producing a few standalone films that were not part of the overall saga came up. Those possibilities are becoming more real.''

'Star Wars Episode VII' is scheduled for release in 2015 and Disney are prioritising the film above all else.

Bob added: ''The priority of Disney and Lucasfilm is to create a great film for 2015 and do everything we can across our businesses to help the success of that film.''

Simon Kinberg Talks X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Blu-ray, the Response to Quicksilver, APOCALYPSE, and George Lucas’ Reaction to STAR WARS: REBELS

Oct 5 2014 1:46pm CDT | Source: Collider

Arriving on Blu-ray and DVD on October 14th is X-Men: Days of Future Past.  The film was a massive success at the box office, becoming the highest grossing X-Men entry thus far by a wide margin.  Indeed, the production itself was so big that an entire subplot featuring the character of Rogue was removed, with an extended cut of the film—dubbed the “Rogue Cut”—set to be released on home video next summer.  In promotion of this current Blu-ray release, though, I recently got the ch ...

Star Wars Toy Documentary ‘Plastic Galaxy’ Now Streaming

Oct 3 2014 12:07pm CDT | Source: Slash Film

One of the best/worst things about being a Star Wars fan is the merchandise. There’s just so much of it. You can try and avoid it, tell yourself you aren’t going to buy it, but eventually someone is going to make that exact piece you’ve always dreamed about and you have to have it. That’s because, in one of the most famous business deals ever, George Lucas turned down a significant chunk of his salary on ...

HP: Okay, here’s a nostalgia-based question that you’ll be allowed to answer: How do you feel about the “updates” George Lucas has made to the films?Oscar Isaac: Well, it’s a funny thing. I mean there’s two things. As an artist, like, he made the shit, so why can’t he do whatever the heck he wants with it. The Biggest Star Wars Plot Holes...and the Fan Theories That Explain Them

Sep 29 2014 8:28am CDT | Source: movie pilot

The Star Wars universe - especially in the original trilogy - is a pretty awesome place: one full of Jedi Knights, epic space battles and straightforwardly evil villains to oppose. There's one major problem with it, though - courtesy of Mr. George Lucas, Esq:It couldn't be more full of plot holes if it tried.Fortunately, though, Star Wars also has the sort of awesomely devoted fan-base that any othe ...
