Ricky Gervais' 'special bond' with a prawn

Feb 3 2013, 4:14am CST | by

Ricky Gervais has a ''special bond'' with the 'The Muppets' Pepe the Prawn.

The British comedian and actor is set to star in the new Muppets movie alongside the animal puppets and is so happy to be a part of the franchise - especially when shooting opposite the Spanish-accented sea creature.

Ricky gushed: ''They're so loved, The Muppets, and on set I am just smiling all the time. I am just literally... and the poor people, all the puppeteers, these really great, skilled actors, I don't look at them - I am chatting to Kermit.

''I've got a special bond now with Pepé the Prawn, he's amazing. I didn't really rate him before but he's a brilliant bloke and I said to him 'Are you a prawn?' and he went 'King Prawn'. I said 'What's the difference between a prawn and a shrimp?' and he said 'It's all about the size baby'.''

Ricky still can't believe how he managed to land the leading role in the children's film and rates the experience higher than even working with actor Robert De Niro, who appeared in Ricky's popular comedy show 'Extras'.

He told Absolute Radio host Christian O'Connell: ''Honestly, it's ridiculous isn't it? I really can't believe my luck and I was very excited when I was offered it and I thought, 'Oh, this is quite a big one really'.

''Honestly, this is the first time when I've really gone, 'I really can't believe my luck here'. I think people think I am blase about doing all this stuff but this tops working with De Niro.''

The Scientific Secret Behind Batman's Hidden Identity Revealed

Jul 18 2014 11:31am CDT | Source: movie pilot

In the superhero world, there are levels of how effective various alter-ego and costume disguises really are. For example, we have to suspend our sense of disbelief fairly majorly to believe that no one at the Daily Planet has ever figured out Clark Kent - the mild mannered, bespectacled journalist - is actually Superman. Meanwhile, several superheroes seem to get by with nothing but a bit of black ...

EMMYS: British Continue To Invade Acting Categories

Jul 10 2014 1:25pm CDT | Source: Deadline

Cor blimey, the British aren’t coming — they’re here to stay. Including Ricky Gervais’ surprise Emmy nomination as Lead Actor in a Comedy series for Derek this morning, there are 15 nods for Brits in the acting races this year. If we add voice-overs, Jeremy Irons and Daniel Craig would make it 17 performance nods. Last year, there were 14 total. British actors have been plying their trade in U.S. series for ages, but this crop boasts a lot of British-based (o ...
