Ricky Gervais' 'special bond' with a prawn

Feb 3 2013, 4:14am CST | by

Ricky Gervais has a ''special bond'' with the 'The Muppets' Pepe the Prawn.

The British comedian and actor is set to star in the new Muppets movie alongside the animal puppets and is so happy to be a part of the franchise - especially when shooting opposite the Spanish-accented sea creature.

Ricky gushed: ''They're so loved, The Muppets, and on set I am just smiling all the time. I am just literally... and the poor people, all the puppeteers, these really great, skilled actors, I don't look at them - I am chatting to Kermit.

''I've got a special bond now with Pepé the Prawn, he's amazing. I didn't really rate him before but he's a brilliant bloke and I said to him 'Are you a prawn?' and he went 'King Prawn'. I said 'What's the difference between a prawn and a shrimp?' and he said 'It's all about the size baby'.''

Ricky still can't believe how he managed to land the leading role in the children's film and rates the experience higher than even working with actor Robert De Niro, who appeared in Ricky's popular comedy show 'Extras'.

He told Absolute Radio host Christian O'Connell: ''Honestly, it's ridiculous isn't it? I really can't believe my luck and I was very excited when I was offered it and I thought, 'Oh, this is quite a big one really'.

''Honestly, this is the first time when I've really gone, 'I really can't believe my luck here'. I think people think I am blase about doing all this stuff but this tops working with De Niro.''

Oct 2 2014 6:42pm CDT | Source: cinema blend

Even though we’d never want to actually deal with Ricky Gervais’ brilliantly aggravating David Brent on a daily basis, it certainly is a discomforting pleasure to have him back in our lives every so often. This may be our first peek into Brent’s upcoming transition to the silver screen, and there’s arguably no better way to experience this self-inflated buffoon than in song. ...
