"This is definitely slumber party food. Popcorn meant to be breezily tossed at your friend in a beanbag chair or munched on while Matthew McConaughey flashes his trademark grin on the flatscreen. Weekend corn, not working class corn. Keep it in the cabinet with the Drambuie and the set of porcelain chopsticks."

Matthew McConaughey: Magic Mike 2 is on hold

Feb 1 2013, 4:13am CST | by

Matthew McConaughey admits 'Magic Mike 2' has been halted by Channing Tatum's impending fatherhood.

The 43-year-old actor revealed the sequel to last year's comedy about a group of male strippers is still in the works, but they won't begin seriously discussing it until producer and leading man Channing's first child with his wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum is born.

He told MTV News: ''I haven't talked to Channing [Tatum] in about a month. I know it's something that's legitimately brewing.

''But I think he's taking some time off too because has about to be a new dad, and good for him to do that too cause he's been cranking it out for a while.''

Matthew hopes his kooky alter ego Dallas will be a big part of the sequel, but will only return on the condition that he doesn't become a caricature and Matthew can have a say in his storyline.

He added: ''In the right way [I would come back]. It would be so much fun, but I would only be able to do to revisit Dallas if I really go 'OK, that's what he would be doing.'

''And Dallas can't become like all of a sudden obviously comedic. I'd have to keep him the same tone. He's committed.''

'Step Up' stud Channing recently announced Steven Soderbergh had pulled out of directing the follow-up and he thought assistant director Greg Jacobs was likely to be picking up the reins.

He mused: ''You know, we don't know if it's going to happen yet. We want it to happen. We'd love it to be a road-trip movie, but Soderbergh's not directing - like done, done. He's like actually gone.''
