Steven Spielberg named Filmmaker of the Year

Jan 31 2013, 4:24am CST | by

Steven Spielberg will receive the ACE Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year Award.

The Oscar-nominated director is due to be honoured for his ''masterpiece'' of cinematography, 'Lincoln', by the Board of Directors of the American Cinema Editors during the 63rd annual ACE Eddie Awards on February 16.

The ACE Board of Directors said in a statement: ''Steven Spielberg is a cinematic treasure. For over four decades he has been moving audiences around the world with his unique, powerful brand of storytelling.

''As one of the most successful directors in history, he has brought us beloved films, which have not only delighted us but have been indelibly woven into our cultural fabric.

''Throughout it all, he has worked side by side with the great Michael Kahn, ACE, forming a director-editor partnership that has lasted decades. It is our pleasure to recognise him with the 'ACE Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year' honour, especially in a year where he has, once again, created a masterpiece with his latest film, 'Lincoln'.''

The ACE Eddie Awards celebrates the year's best editing in nine categories of film, television and documentaries. The honorary society of film editors is formed of more than 700 editors working in film and television.

Jul 26 2014 3:05pm CDT | Source: Collider

The 7th Lincoln Leadership Prize Dinner Honoring Steven Spielberg
Being an entertainment documentary junkie, I will watch any and everything I can get my hands on.  I remember first hearing about the Atari / E.T. archaeological dig featured in Atari: Game Over, not knowing there was a film that was being created documenting the project. Besides, what was the angle for seekers of buried E.T. cartridges anyway?  In a related vein, I was aware of prop collectors traveling to f ...

The 7th Lincoln Leadership Prize Dinner Honoring Steven Spielberg
He’s back, not that he ever really went away. Fox’s favorite multitasker Gordon Ramsay returned with a new season of Hotel Hell (1.5/5) last night. Which of course meant that Fox was all Ramsay on Monday with the second cycle debut of the reality series following his own MasterChef (2.1/7). Hotel Hell was a big hit for the network when it launched two years ago, if for no reason than it was comfortingly reminiscent of Ramsay’s now shuttered Kitchen Nightmares. The then new HH saw the often ace ...

Hellboy 3: Epic Movie Sequels That Never Happened

Jul 21 2014 9:51am CDT | Source: movie pilot

Hellboy 3 isn't happening. It's sad, I know, but both actors and the director have confirmed that we won't get to see Big Red in action again. Hopefully a publicity stunt like the Aquaman deal but right now, it seems very, very unlikely. Anyway, we might as well get on with the post-mortem. What follows is Guillermo del Toro's idea for the movie. Hellboy was to finally come to terms with the fact that his destiny, his inevitable destiny, is to become the beast o ...
