Peter Farrelly irked by Movie 43 critics

Jan 30 2013, 10:11am CST | by

Peter Farrelly has told 'Movie 43' critics to ''back off''.

The filmmaker took to Twitter to defend his new comedy - which features an all-star cast including Halle Berry, Emma Stone and Kate Winslet - after it received poor reviews from film critics and underperformed at the US box office over the weekend, taking just $4.8 million.

He tweeted: ''To the critics - 'Movie 43' is not the end of the world. It's just a $6 million movie where we tried to do something different. Now back off.''

He then added: ''You always complain that Hollywood never gives you new stuff, and then when you get it, you flip out. Lighten up.''

However, fans didn't react well to his comment and film buff Harold Itzkowitz was quick to reply: ''Newness isn't the issue. Goodness is. And why answer critics? Your work speaks for itself, right? Now go laughing to the bank.''

The experimental film features 12 different storylines, each brought to life by a different director, and one of the largest casts to ever grace the big screen, but it failed to impress and has only received a 4% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Peter Howell of the Toronto Star newpaper described it has ''the worst movie [I've] ever seen'', while Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun-Times newpaper dubbed it ''aggressively tasteless''.

Peter and his brother Bobby Farrelly are currently working on a sequel to 1994's 'Dumb and Dumber'.
