3D re-release of Star Wars prequels postponed

Jan 29 2013, 10:22am CST | by

The 3D re-release of 'Star Wars' prequels 'Attack Of The Clones' and 'Revenge Of The Sith' have been postponed.

The sci-fi franchise - bought off filmmaker George Lucas by Walt Disney Pictures last year - have delayed new versions of the two films in order to give their full attention to the upcoming seventh instalment - which is to be helmed by 'Star Trek Into Darkness' director J.J. Abrams.

In a statement on their official website, Disney said: ''Given the recent development that we are moving forward with a new Star Wars trilogy we will now focus 100% of our efforts on 'Star Wars: Episode VII' in order to ensure the best possible experience for our fans.

''We will post further information about our 3D release plans at a later date.''

The films were originally set to be re-released this autumn but have now been held back indefinitely.

After Abrams was announced as director last week, he admitted it felt ''wildly surreal'' to be involved with such a big project.

He gushed: ''It really is an incredible thing. It's obviously way too early to talk specifics, but I'm excited to actually start it.''

George believes J.J. was the ''ideal choice'' to direct the new film, adding: ''The legacy couldn't be in better hands''.

'Star Wars: Episode 7', penned by award-winning screenwriter Michael Arndt, is scheduled for a 2015 release.

Could The First ‘Star Wars Episode VII’ Trailer Be Coming This Year?

Oct 27 2014 2:30pm CDT | Source: slash film

Interstellar, Inherent Vice, Guardians of the Galaxy… as excited as I was for all those films coming into 2014, the thing I’m still most looking forward to is the Star Wars Episode VII teaser trailer. The problem is, with the film hitting in December 2015, the odds of that trailer coming out this year seem really slim. Some new buzz is circling the Internet, however, that not only says that director J.J. Abrams has already cut a trailer, but that John W ...

ZERO DARK THIRTY Cinematographer Greig Fraser Will Shoot Gareth Edwards’ STAR WARS Movie

Oct 24 2014 1:28pm CDT | Source: Collider

While Lucasfilm and Disney have been incredibly tight-lipped with regards to director J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII, the studios have unveiled essentially nothing about the other Star Wars films in the works.  We know that starting next year, there are plans to release a new Star Wars movie every year, and we also know that the first film after Episode VII will be a “standalone” Star Wars feature directed by Godzilla helmer Gareth Edwards.  After that we have Rian Johnson’s Star ...

STAR TREK 3 Brings Oscar Winner Claudio Miranda Aboard as Cinematographer, Will Shoot in Vancouver and Seoul

Oct 3 2014 6:48pm CDT | Source: Collider

Now that we're done, at least for a while, with the whole William Shatner cameo saga, we have some actual facts to report regarding Star Trek 3.  First of all, while the upcoming sequel will mostly be shot in Vancouver, British Columbia, some of it will in fact be lensed in Seoul, South Korea.  And it looks like Oscar winning cinematographer Claudio Miranda (Life of Pi, TRON: Legacy) will be joining writer/director Roberto Orci behind the camera.  This marks the first time a S ...

Oscar Isaac is a busy man since he scored the role of a lifetime in the Coen brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis. He has The Two Faces of January landing soon and of course, there’s that little independent film he’s shooting now in London that goes by the name of Star Wars: Episode VII. STAR TREK: THE COMPENDIUM Blu-ray Review

Sep 30 2014 10:51am CDT | Source: Collider

Paramount committed an egregious faux pas last year with its release of Star Trek: Into Darkness by sprinkling different extras on different Blu-rays.  If you bought your disc at Target, you got one set of extras.  If you bought it at Best Buy, you got a different set.  If you wanted all of them, you basically had to buy multiple copies of the same movie, then vent your fiery wrath across the Internet.  Trekkies hit the roof and with good reason: it took the double- ...

TV Review: ‘Star Wars Rebels’

Sep 29 2014 9:30am CDT | Source: variety

Perhaps the “Star Wars” franchise’s worst-kept secret during the second-trilogy era is that its best screen depictions have come via TV animation. Inaugurating the Disney-synergy juggernaut before director J.J. Abrams can get there, “Star Wars Rebels” continues this trend, offering a sly, stylish offshoot — introducing a new li ...

STAR WARS EPISODE VII Concept Image Depicts Epic Lightsaber Duel

Sep 26 2014 9:38am CDT | Source: Collider

Another day, another image from Star Wars: Episode VII, but this one just happens to be the best thing I've seen from the movie so far.  It depicts a lightsaber duel under the Millenium Falcon with a Darth Vader-like figure fighting a Rebel with a green lightsaber.  It's epic looking, and for a second I get excited but then I remember the prequels and how flat they were visually (not to mention narratively).  Then I get excited all over again because ...

New Concept Art Reveals STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Chrome Trooper

Sep 25 2014 1:48pm CDT | Source: Collider

Remember last month when some genuine concept art from Star Wars: Episode VII started popping up, revealing the new Stormtroopers and the costume designs for Han Solo?  Well the same source is at it again, as they’ve now revealed a Chrome Trooper image by way of even more concept art.  Thankfully this isn’t incredibly spoilerly, but it’s neat to see how director J.J. Abrams is making the franchise his own by tweaking some very familia ...
