3D re-release of Star Wars prequels postponed

Jan 29 2013, 10:22am CST | by

The 3D re-release of 'Star Wars' prequels 'Attack Of The Clones' and 'Revenge Of The Sith' have been postponed.

The sci-fi franchise - bought off filmmaker George Lucas by Walt Disney Pictures last year - have delayed new versions of the two films in order to give their full attention to the upcoming seventh instalment - which is to be helmed by 'Star Trek Into Darkness' director J.J. Abrams.

In a statement on their official website, Disney said: ''Given the recent development that we are moving forward with a new Star Wars trilogy we will now focus 100% of our efforts on 'Star Wars: Episode VII' in order to ensure the best possible experience for our fans.

''We will post further information about our 3D release plans at a later date.''

The films were originally set to be re-released this autumn but have now been held back indefinitely.

After Abrams was announced as director last week, he admitted it felt ''wildly surreal'' to be involved with such a big project.

He gushed: ''It really is an incredible thing. It's obviously way too early to talk specifics, but I'm excited to actually start it.''

George believes J.J. was the ''ideal choice'' to direct the new film, adding: ''The legacy couldn't be in better hands''.

'Star Wars: Episode 7', penned by award-winning screenwriter Michael Arndt, is scheduled for a 2015 release.

STAR TREK: THE COMPENDIUM Blu-ray Review

Sep 30 2014 10:51am CDT | Source: Collider

Paramount committed an egregious faux pas last year with its release of Star Trek: Into Darkness by sprinkling different extras on different Blu-rays.  If you bought your disc at Target, you got one set of extras.  If you bought it at Best Buy, you got a different set.  If you wanted all of them, you basically had to buy multiple copies of the same movie, then vent your fiery wrath across the Internet.  Trekkies hit the roof and ...

TV Review: ‘Star Wars Rebels’

Sep 29 2014 9:30am CDT | Source: variety

Perhaps the “Star Wars” franchise’s worst-kept secret during the second-trilogy era is that its best screen depictions have come via TV animation. Inaugurating the Disney-synergy juggernaut before director J.J. Abrams can get there, “Star Wars Rebels” continues this trend, offering a sly, stylish offshoot — introducing a new lineup of characters very much in the... ...

STAR WARS EPISODE VII Concept Image Depicts Epic Lightsaber Duel

Sep 26 2014 9:38am CDT | Source: Collider

Another day, another image from Star Wars: Episode VII, but this one just happens to be the best thing I've seen from the movie so far.  It depicts a lightsaber duel under the Millenium Falcon with a Darth Vader-like figure fighting a Rebel with a green lightsaber.  It's epic looking, and for a second I get excited but then I remember the prequels and how flat they were visually (not to mention narratively).  Then I get excited all over again because the ...

New Concept Art Reveals STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Chrome Trooper

Sep 25 2014 1:48pm CDT | Source: Collider

Remember last month when some genuine concept art from Star Wars: Episode VII started popping up, revealing the new Stormtroopers and the costume designs for Han Solo?  Well the same source is at it again, as they’ve now revealed a Chrome Trooper image by way of even more concept art.  Thankfully this isn’t incredibly spoilerly, but it’s neat to see how director J.J. Abrams is making the franchise his own by tweaking some very fa ...

STAR TREK 3 Might Include William Shatner… If He Decides to Show Up

Sep 22 2014 5:39pm CDT | Source: Collider

I remember the friction between William Shatner and J.J. Abrams before the release of Star Trek reboot in 2009.  If I recall, there were some awkward exchanges (and even videos) bandied about regarding Shatner's displeasure with his cameo being cut.  For whatever reason he didn't appear in Star Trek Into Darkness either, but now there's a sliver of hope to confuse the timeline even more in Star Trek 3. Apparently writer/potential director Roberto Orci has written a part ...

Hulu Takes Bad Robot’s 11/22/63 Series; J.J. Abrams and Stephen King to Executive Produce

Sep 22 2014 1:55pm CDT | Source: Collider

Even though J.J. Abrams is currently busy in a galaxy far, far away, he’s still got time to turn back the clock to November 22, 1963 to explore what might happen if someone got the opportunity to go back in time and stop the assassination of President John F. Kennedy because it was just announced that Hulu gave the adaptation of Stephen King’s 11/22/63 a direct-to-series order. Bad Robot, King, executive producer-writer Bridget Carpenter and Warner Bros. Television ...

J.J. Abrams and Stephen King’s ’11/22/63′ Is Coming to Hulu

Sep 22 2014 1:48pm CDT | Source: slash film

Another Stephen King story is coming to the small screen. 11/22/63, which J.J. Abrams‘ Bad Robot optioned for TV last year, has just received a straight-to-series order from Hulu. As the title suggests, 11/22/63 centers on the assassination of JFK. But there’s a supernatural bent — the protagonist is a modern man who travels back in time to try and prevent the tragedy from ever taking place. Hit the jump for ...

The STAR WARS: EPISODE VII and BATMAN V SUPERMAN War Continues with a First Official Look at the Return of the Millennium Falcon

Sep 18 2014 11:05am CDT | Source: Collider

Directors J.J. Abrams and Zack Snyder have been going back-and-forth online by parodying their respective blockbusters, Star Wars: Episode VII and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.  Snyder struck the most recent blow by showing a Stormtrooper getting arrested for hi-jacking Batman's ride.  Abrams has retorted in a way that will be tough to top.  He's stolen the Batmobile back and placed it on the underside of the Mil ...
