J.J. Abrams: Star Trek 2 will make fans cry

Jan 24 2013, 12:09am CST | by

'Star Trek: Into Darkness' will be an emotional rollercoaster.

Director J.J. Abrams promises the sequel to 2009's franchise reboot will have audiences in tears at the end of the film thanks to its message of hope and love triumphing over fear.

He told MTV: ''The goal of this movie is to make you cry. If the movie does its job, then by the end of the movie, you will have had a reaction involving the eyes. If the movie works, then there's definitely an emotional component.

''[It is] very much about hope, about love, about romance, and about facing something that is truly terrifying and finding a way through the connection of your family and surviving and being stronger afterwards.''

Zachary Quinto, who plays Captain Spock, added that the Entreprise crew will be put in far greater danger than ever before by Benedict Cumberbatch's villainous ''terrorist'' character John Harrison.

He said: ''There's reason to worry. There is an insidiousness and ruthlessness and fierce intelligence to [Harrison] that almost undermines the interconnectivity of the crew. The stakes are much higher.''

Although famously secretive filmmaker J.J. has kept quiet about details of the project, he recently confessed he was counting down the days until fans got to see the finished product and the sheer brilliance of Benedict's performance.

He enthused: ''I just can't wait for people to see the movie. Benedict is unbelievable. It's a tall order, coming into that movie, because the crew of the 'Enterprise' - that cast - is so damn good and they're wonderful to work with and they're all good hearts.

''I not only love him in the movie, but I love him, as a human being. He's an amazing guy. I can't wait for people to see the movie and experience what he's done.''

Oct 3 2014 6:48pm CDT | Source: Collider

Now that we're done, at least for a while, with the whole William Shatner cameo saga, we have some actual facts to report regarding Star Trek 3.  First of all, while the upcoming sequel will mostly be shot in Vancouver, British Columbia, some of it will in fact be lensed in Seoul, South Korea.  And it looks like Oscar winning cinematographer Claudio Miranda (Life of Pi, TRON: Legacy) will be joining writer/director Roberto Orci behind the camera.  This marks the first time a Star Trek ...

Star Wars Episode VII: Oscar Isaac Talks Star Wars Old & New

Sep 30 2014 2:21pm CDT | Source: movie fanatic

Oscar Isaac is a busy man since he scored the role of a lifetime in the Coen brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis. He has The Two Faces of January landing soon and of course, there’s that little independent film he’s shooting now in London that goes by the name of Star Wars: Episode VII. Isaac was talking to The Huffington Post about his upcoming projects and the state of his career, and naturally the conversation turned to the galaxy far, far away. ...

STAR TREK: THE COMPENDIUM Blu-ray Review

Sep 30 2014 10:51am CDT | Source: Collider

Paramount committed an egregious faux pas last year with its release of Star Trek: Into Darkness by sprinkling different extras on different Blu-rays.  If you bought your disc at Target, you got one set of extras.  If you bought it at Best Buy, you got a different set.  If you wanted all of them, you basically had to buy multiple copies of the same movie, then vent your fiery wrath across the Internet.  Trekkies hit th ...

TV Review: ‘Star Wars Rebels’

Sep 29 2014 9:30am CDT | Source: variety

Perhaps the “Star Wars” franchise’s worst-kept secret during the second-trilogy era is that its best screen depictions have come via TV animation. Inaugurating the Disney-synergy juggernaut before director J.J. Abrams can get there, “Star Wars Rebels” continues this trend, offering a sly, stylish offshoot — introducing a new lineup of characters very much in the... Read more » ...

STAR WARS EPISODE VII Concept Image Depicts Epic Lightsaber Duel

Sep 26 2014 9:38am CDT | Source: Collider

Another day, another image from Star Wars: Episode VII, but this one just happens to be the best thing I've seen from the movie so far.  It depicts a lightsaber duel under the Millenium Falcon with a Darth Vader-like figure fighting a Rebel with a green lightsaber.  It's epic looking, and for a second I get excited but then I remember the prequels and how flat they were visually (not to mention narratively).  Then I get excited all over again because there's no way this ...

New Concept Art Reveals STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Chrome Trooper

Sep 25 2014 1:48pm CDT | Source: Collider

Remember last month when some genuine concept art from Star Wars: Episode VII started popping up, revealing the new Stormtroopers and the costume designs for Han Solo?  Well the same source is at it again, as they’ve now revealed a Chrome Trooper image by way of even more concept art.  Thankfully this isn’t incredibly spoilerly, but it’s neat to see how director J.J. Abrams is making the franchise his own by tweaking some very familiar designs.  The Millennium Falcon remains unchanged, w ...

STAR TREK 3 Might Include William Shatner… If He Decides to Show Up

Sep 22 2014 5:39pm CDT | Source: Collider

I remember the friction between William Shatner and J.J. Abrams before the release of Star Trek reboot in 2009.  If I recall, there were some awkward exchanges (and even videos) bandied about regarding Shatner's displeasure with his cameo being cut.  For whatever reason he didn't appear in Star Trek Into Darkness either, but now there's a sliver of hope to confuse the timeline even more in Star Trek 3. Apparently writer/potential director Roberto Orci has written a part ...

Hulu Takes Bad Robot’s 11/22/63 Series; J.J. Abrams and Stephen King to Executive Produce

Sep 22 2014 1:55pm CDT | Source: Collider

Even though J.J. Abrams is currently busy in a galaxy far, far away, he’s still got time to turn back the clock to November 22, 1963 to explore what might happen if someone got the opportunity to go back in time and stop the assassination of President John F. Kennedy because it was just announced that Hulu gave the adaptation of Stephen King’s 11/22/63 a direct-to-series order. Bad Robot, King, executive producer-writer Bridget Ca ...
