David Fincher in talks for Gone Girl

Jan 23 2013, 10:45am CST | by

David Fincher is in talks to direct a big screen adaptation of 'Gone Girl'.

20th Century Fox recently bought the film rights to Gillian Flynn's bestselling novel about a woman who disappears on the morning of her fifth wedding anniversary, and the Oscar-nominated 'The Social Network' director is now in line to helm the project.

The novel has garnered much buzz including positive reviews from critics and strong sales around the world, enough to catch the attention of Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon, whose production company bought the rights along with Fox.

Reese will produce the film while author Gillian will pen the first draft of the script.

David is no stranger to adaptations with strong female characters; his last movie was the 2011 English-language adaptation of Stieg Larsson's 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' starring Rooney Mara in the sought-after role of Lisbeth Salander.

The director is currently developing Jules Verne's '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea' for Disney.

'Gone Girl', which is a New York Times Bestseller, follows Amy Dunne, whose secret life is uncovered through a series of diary entries after she vanishes on her fifth wedding anniversary and her husband, Nick, becomes a suspect in her disappearance. The book is structured with each chapter alternating between the point of view of husband and wife.

Michael Fassbender Could Be Steve Jobs for Danny Boyle

Nov 4 2014 2:30pm CST | Source: Slash Film

When Aaron Sorkin revealed that his Steve Jobs script, which will be directed by Danny Boyle, features Jobs in pretty much every frame of the movie, we started to think about the movie in new terms. Clearly a film with a Sorkin script that has attracted directors such as David Fincher and Danny Boyle is likely to be a showcase for whatever actor takes the job. But putting that star in every frame requires an even deeper level of commitment. And now it seems like Mich ...

Christian Bale Drops Out of Steve Jobs Biopic

Nov 3 2014 1:23pm CST | Source: Collider

Sony's Steve Jobs biopic has lost its star once again.  A couple of months ago, Leonardo DiCaprio was being eyed to take on the role of Apple founder Steve Jobs in Sony's Aaron Sorkin-scripted feature.  While it took the studio a while to find a director (David Fincher briefly flirted with the gig), they finally signed Danny Boyle to the project, and it was looking like a reteaming with his The Beach star was in the cards.  DiCaprio never ente ...

Nightcrawler Slips Ahead At The US Box Office

Nov 2 2014 5:05pm CST | Source: Empire Online

But Ouija is not far behind...Halloween is traditionally the time for scary movies to arrive at the stateside box office, but with the holiday falling on a Friday this year, studios largely steered clear to avoid being affected by trick-or-treating or drunken parties. Still, US cinemagoers were clearly ready to experience Jake Gyllenhaal being a creepy – if all too human – character in Nightcrawler.Dan Gilroy’s fi ...

Watch Sofia Coppola’s Adorable Gap Holiday Campaign

Oct 31 2014 3:00pm CDT | Source: Slash Film

I know, I know: Halloween is way too early for Christmas marketing. But these charming Gap spots directed by Sofia Coppola don’t beat you over the head with their Christmas-iness. If anything, the unifying theme really seems to be “sweaters,” and that’s something we can get behind in these chilly fall days. Besides, you can think of them as a sort of appetizer for Coppola’s other upcoming holiday project, a TV special with Bill Murr ...

Oscars: ‘Gone Girl’ Highlights Year’s Bleak View of Married Life

Oct 28 2014 12:00pm CDT | Source: Variety

If there’s a reason “Gone Girl” has emerged as a key movie of the moment, it’s because David Fincher’s thriller effectively doubles as a cautionary satire about the horrors of heterosexual commitment — “the date-night movie of the decade for couples who dream of destroying one another,” in the words of Rolling Stone’ ...

Aaron Sorkin Says Christian Bale Will Be in Every Frame of the Steve Jobs Film

Oct 23 2014 12:00pm CDT | Source: slash film

We thought Christian Bale was a pretty solid choice to play Steve Jobs in Danny Boyle’s upcoming movie, but it turns out we weren’t half as excited as writer Aaron Sorkin is. Calling Bale “the best actor on the board in a certain age range,” Sorkin expressed his confidence that Bale would “crush it” as the late tech guru — in a role that is particularly difficult, and present in every single moment of the film. Hit the jump to read the Aaron Sorkin Chris ...

Christian Bale Back In Talks For Steve Jobs Biopic

Oct 23 2014 10:23am CDT | Source: Empire Online

UPDATE: Aaron Sorkin confirms his castingUPDATE: Bloomberg has talked to a highly-placed source (one Aaron Sorkin), who confirms Bale is aboard. “We needed the best actor on the board in a certain age range and that’s Chris Bale,” Sorkin says. “He didn’t have to audition. Well, there was a meeting.” You can see him use an extended sports metaphor in the Bloomberg video here. But we sort of wish he'd announced it like this.He was talked about bac ...

MADEA’S TOUGH LOVE Trailer: Meet Tyler Perry’s Animated Madea

Oct 21 2014 6:03pm CDT | Source: Collider

There’s no new Madea movie hitting theaters this year for the first time in three years, but you’re not completely off the hook.  Tyler Perry may have swapped his Madea getup for a super dapper suit to portray Tanner Bolt in David Fincher’s Gone Girl, but he’s still unleashing his inner Madea for a new animated film, Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Tough Love. I’ve completely lost patience for the film franchise and for Madea in general, but I’ve also got to admit, the new Ma ...
