David Fincher in talks for Gone Girl

Jan 23 2013, 10:45am CST | by

David Fincher is in talks to direct a big screen adaptation of 'Gone Girl'.

20th Century Fox recently bought the film rights to Gillian Flynn's bestselling novel about a woman who disappears on the morning of her fifth wedding anniversary, and the Oscar-nominated 'The Social Network' director is now in line to helm the project.

The novel has garnered much buzz including positive reviews from critics and strong sales around the world, enough to catch the attention of Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon, whose production company bought the rights along with Fox.

Reese will produce the film while author Gillian will pen the first draft of the script.

David is no stranger to adaptations with strong female characters; his last movie was the 2011 English-language adaptation of Stieg Larsson's 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' starring Rooney Mara in the sought-after role of Lisbeth Salander.

The director is currently developing Jules Verne's '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea' for Disney.

'Gone Girl', which is a New York Times Bestseller, follows Amy Dunne, whose secret life is uncovered through a series of diary entries after she vanishes on her fifth wedding anniversary and her husband, Nick, becomes a suspect in her disappearance. The book is structured with each chapter alternating between the point of view of husband and wife.

Girl With the Dragon Tattoo Sequel Will Be 'Extremely Different' than the Book - But WHY?

Sep 15 2014 6:41pm CDT | Source: movie pilot

Making movies based on beloved novels is always a really tricky business. Apparently, director David Fincher's approach to this is full on n ...

TIFF 2014: Edward Zwick's 'Pawn Sacrifice' Reexamines Bobby Fischer

Sep 8 2014 9:13pm CDT | Source: First Showing

Ever since first seeing Searching for Bobby Fischer when I was a young kid, I've been intrigued by chess grandmaster Bobby Fischer and the very odd life he lived. While a few other films have been made about him, or the brilliant game(s) of chess he played, I haven't come across too much that has covered his life or dramatized it in a way that has provided this much depth. The latest film from Edward Zwick (of Legends of the Fall, The Last Samurai, Blo ...

Aug 29 2014 10:28am CDT | Source: screen rant

Not only is Gillian Flynn’s missing person thriller Gone Girl quite the page-turner, it’s also a fascinating book in terms of its exploration of gender roles and, in particular, relationships between men and women.
