Gremlins movie to be rebooted

Jan 17 2013, 6:52am CST | by

Steven Spielberg's 'Gremlins' movie could be rebooted, according to reports.

Vulture.com claims Warner Bros. is in contact with the director's Amblin Entertainment company to broker a deal that would allow a remake of the horror comedy.

His demands have always proved a stumbling block for the reboot, as it was ''too daunting a financial prospect,'' but sources suggest Spielberg - who was executive producer for the original in 1984 - could sign over the rights.

A spokesman for the director neither confirmed nor denied the rumours when asked, cryptically claiming the ''appropriate executives were not available for comment.''

'Gremlins' - which starred Phoebe Cates, Zach Gilligan and Hoyt Axton - was directed by Joe Dante, who has in the past played down the idea of a new film.

Joe previously said: ''Those films were such products of the technology at the time.

''The movie was more limited and created by technology. They were puppets.

''The storylines, then, were based around what we could do with the Gremlins.

''Now, of course, anything is possible but it becomes a little more difficult to hone it on what your storyline would be.''

Watch the Very Terrence Malick-y ‘The Better Angels’ Trailer

Oct 27 2014 10:00am CDT | Source: Slash Film

We’ve seen plenty of movies about Abraham Lincoln — including, most recently, Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln — but none quite like this. The Better Angels takes place long before all of the stuff Lincoln got famous for, focusing instead on his childhood in the Indiana wilderness. Jason Clarke and Brit Marling play the parents of the future U.S. president (played as a kid by Braydon Denney), and Diane Kruger another maternal figure. It looks a bit like Tree of Life if it were shot in black and white ...

‘Magician’ Trailer: Revisit the Life and Work of Orson Welles

Oct 22 2014 6:30pm CDT | Source: slash film

Maybe I’m guessing wrong, but it feels like Orson Welles has fallen away from his perch at the top of the list of the most fascinating American filmmakers. We’re a couple decades removed from the prominence of the people who kept him in the conversation; other filmmakers have dominated the conversation as dialogue about film has changed. We’ve seen Citizen Kane fall from first to second on Sight and Sound’s once-a-decade list of the 50 Greatest Films of ...

Nordling Reviews FURY!

Oct 11 2014 12:21pm CDT | Source: aintitcool

David Ayer's tank war saga gets a lot right but fumbles in the stretch. Read the full article on AICN Nordling here.   There is a lot of conflict in FURY, and that’s not just in the subject matter.  FURY is fighting with the ghosts of a thousand World War II movies.  While it never breaks new ground plotwise, director/screenwriter David Ayer would rather you forget all those past films and take FURY on its own terms, which is fair.  There isn’t a war film out ...

Ron Howard’s INFERNO Release Date Pushed to October 14, 2016

Oct 9 2014 2:27pm CDT | Source: Collider

The popularity of a Dan Brown novel has nothing on Star Wars.  As Evan correctly predicted previously, Sony Pictures has opted to shift the Inferno release date from December 18, 2015—opposite Star Wars: Episode VII—back nearly a year to October 14, 2016.  Ron Howard returns to direct the third Dan Brown adaptation with Tom Hanks back in the starring role after 2006’s The Da Vinci Code and 2009’s Angels & Demons.  The initial 2015 Inferno release date was set quite a while ago, so i ...
