Gremlins movie to be rebooted

Jan 17 2013, 6:52am CST | by

Steven Spielberg's 'Gremlins' movie could be rebooted, according to reports.

Vulture.com claims Warner Bros. is in contact with the director's Amblin Entertainment company to broker a deal that would allow a remake of the horror comedy.

His demands have always proved a stumbling block for the reboot, as it was ''too daunting a financial prospect,'' but sources suggest Spielberg - who was executive producer for the original in 1984 - could sign over the rights.

A spokesman for the director neither confirmed nor denied the rumours when asked, cryptically claiming the ''appropriate executives were not available for comment.''

'Gremlins' - which starred Phoebe Cates, Zach Gilligan and Hoyt Axton - was directed by Joe Dante, who has in the past played down the idea of a new film.

Joe previously said: ''Those films were such products of the technology at the time.

''The movie was more limited and created by technology. They were puppets.

''The storylines, then, were based around what we could do with the Gremlins.

''Now, of course, anything is possible but it becomes a little more difficult to hone it on what your storyline would be.''

Jul 26 2014 6:30pm CDT | Source: movie pilot

In honor of one of the greatest filmmakers in the history of cinema, who would have been 86 years old today (Kubrick passed away in 1999), I have decided to make my list of the Top 10: The best of Stanley Kubrick films ever. It wasn't hard to come up with ten great Kubrick films, but it was tough to order them because so many of his films are masterworks that continue to evolve over time. Kubrick films are rare in that every time you re-watch them it's ...

ATARI: GAME OVER Comic-Con Panel Recap: Behind the Scenes of the Xbox Originals Documentary

Jul 26 2014 3:05pm CDT | Source: Collider

Being an entertainment documentary junkie, I will watch any and everything I can get my hands on.  I remember first hearing about the Atari / E.T. archaeological dig featured in Atari: Game Over, not knowing there was a film that was being created documenting the project. Besides, what was the angle for seekers of buried E.T. cartridges anyway?  In a related vein, I was aware of prop collectors traveling to film locations to dig pieces of junk out of the desert that were once a part of St ...

RATINGS RAT RACE: ‘Hotel Hell’ Returns Down, ‘Under The Dome’ Cracks, ‘Ninja Warrior’ & ‘MasterChef’ Rise, ‘Bachelorette’ Steady

Jul 22 2014 11:11am CDT | Source: Deadline

He’s back, not that he ever really went away. Fox’s favorite multitasker Gordon Ramsay returned with a new season of Hotel Hell (1.5/5) last night. Which of course meant that Fox was all Ramsay on Monday with the second cycle debut of the reality series following his own MasterChef (2.1/7). Hotel Hell was a big hit for the network when it launched two years ago, if for no reason than it was comfortingly reminiscent of Ramsay’s now shuttered Kitchen Nightmares. The then new HH saw the ...

Hellboy 3: Epic Movie Sequels That Never Happened

Jul 21 2014 9:51am CDT | Source: movie pilot

Hellboy 3 isn't happening. It's sad, I know, but both actors and the director have confirmed that we won't get to see Big Red in action again. Hopefully a publicity stunt like the Aquaman deal but right now, it seems very, very unlikely. Anyway, we might as well get on with the post-mortem. What follows is Guillermo del Toro's idea for the movie. Hellboy was to finally come to terms with t ...
