Russell Crowe: Man Of Steel is 'complex'

Jan 17 2013, 4:18am CST | by

Russell Crowe thinks 'Man of Steel' is ''complex''.

The 48-year-old actor is set to play Superman's biological father Jor-El in Zack Snyder's comic book movie and he believes the filmmaker had a huge responsibility to get the remake spot on and bring the iconic superhero into a modern day world.

Russell explained: ''It's very complicated. It's really complex. I don't think anybody has really tried to get into the psychology of what it must be like to be Superman and what people would really respond like in a modern society if somebody like that just popped up.

''I think Zack Snyder was given a great deal of responsibility because, when it comes to comic book heroes and superhero films, the top of the food chain is Superman.''

British actor Henry Cavill is playing the titular role, with Amy Adams portraying love interest Lois Lane, and Russell can't wait to see the public's reaction to the iconic story.

He added in an interview with Reelz: ''I'm really looking forward to seeing it. It's a massive undertaking. It takes you on the ground to Krypton, it takes you to a planet where the sun is four times larger than ours and you get to experience that stuff.

''If you've seen the trailers you realise that this Superman is not just floating through the air held up by a wire. This Superman is super sonic. I'm really looking forward to the way that people will respond to it.''

'Man Of Steel' opens in the UK on June 14.

There has been much debate over Michael Mann's films over the past decade-and-a-half, though one that seems to be universally liked is 2004's "Collateral". At one time though, it turns out neither Tom Cruise or Jamie Foxx were slated to star. Instead, it was going to be a vehicle for Adam Sandler and Russell Crowe. Talking about his upcoming cyber warfare thriller "Blackhat," Mann tells THR: "Nothing' ...

WINTER’S TALE Blu-ray Review

Sep 2 2014 7:00am CDT | Source: Collider

Quentin Tarantino has complained about how one of the biggest problems with American cinema is that it’s afraid of big emotions.  Of melodrama that might descend into camp (or perhaps is camp to begin with).  And it’s true, more movies are likely to adapt an ironic distance than go for something earnest.  There’s a reason for that: when earnest doesn’t work, you get films like The Postman and The Room.  But that means some material just isn’t going ...
