Steven Spielberg's Robopocalypse gets postponed

Jan 10 2013, 4:10am CST | by

Steven Spielberg's next film 'Robopocalypse' has been postponed indefinitely.

The 'Lincoln' director was set to helm the futuristic sci-fi action film - with Chris Hemsworth and Anne Hathaway rumoured to star - but the project has now been put on hold.

Steven's spokesman Martin Levy said the project was ''too important and the script is not ready, and it's too expensive to produce. It's back to the drawing board to see what is possible.''

'Robopocalypse' already faced a setback as it was to be Steven's next film after 2011's 'War Horse' but was pushed back in favour of 'Lincoln', which recently received multiple BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations.

The Dreamworks production is thought to have had a budget of more than $100 million, and was to be distributed by Disney and Fox, marking Steven's first film with the latter studio in over a decade since 2002's 'Minority Report' starring Tom Cruise and Colin Farrell.

The film is based on Daniel H. Wilson's 2011 book of the same name about a band of humans who try to survive the decimation of the world's population by robots.

'Thor' star Chris and 'Les Miserables' actress Anne were to be joined by 'Skyfall' actor Ben Whishaw in the film, slated for a 2014 release.

Watch the Very Terrence Malick-y ‘The Better Angels’ Trailer

Oct 27 2014 10:00am CDT | Source: Slash Film

We’ve seen plenty of movies about Abraham Lincoln — including, most recently, Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln — but none quite like this. The Better Angels takes place long before all of the stuff Lincoln got famous for, focusing instead on his childhood in the Indiana wilderness. Jason Clarke and Brit Marling play the parents of the future U.S. president (played as a kid by Braydon Denney), and Diane Kruger another maternal f ...

‘Magician’ Trailer: Revisit the Life and Work of Orson Welles

Oct 22 2014 6:30pm CDT | Source: slash film

Maybe I’m guessing wrong, but it feels like Orson Welles has fallen away from his perch at the top of the list of the most fascinating American filmmakers. We’re a couple decades removed from the prominence of the people who kept him in the conversation; other filmmakers have dominated the conversation as dialogue about film has changed. We’ve seen Citizen Kane fall from first to second on Sight and Sound’s once-a-decade ...
