Alice Eve and Jeremy Irvine wowed by BAFTA performances

Jan 10 2013, 12:10am CST | by

Alice Eve and Jeremy Irvine are inspired by this year's crop of BAFTA nominees.

The British stars were awe-struck by some of the stand-out performances, especially from Joaquin Phoenix in gritty drama 'The Master', which earned him a Leading Actor nod, and Anne Hathaway's stellar take on Fantine, landing her a Supporting Actress nomination for 'Les Miserables'.

After announcing the shortlist at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts' London headquarters this morning (09.01.13), 'Starter For Ten' actress Alice told BANG Showbiz: ''It's so satisfying when someone nails a performance. I know Jeremy felt that way about Joaquin Phoenix, I felt that way about Anne Hathaway and Marion Cotillard. I wept at Anne's performance!

''I think the Supporting Actress category with Anne, Amy Adams, Judy Dench, that's quite a tight category. I loved all their performances.''

Jeremy added: ''I think with Daniel Day-Lewis and Joaquin Phoenix in the best actor category, I certainly would be watching that. I thought Joaquin Phoenix delivered one of the most extraordinary performances that I've seen, it was almost flawless.''

The young actors admitted they follow their idols' progress ''meticulously'' to hone their craft and claimed watching a great performance on the big screen is the best way kick start their own career motivation.

Alice enthused: ''I read all their interviews and all the different methods everyone uses to get there.''

'War Horse' star Jeremy said: ''It's so nice as well to get inspiration, there's nothing like walking out of the cinema and thinking, 'Oh God, I just want to get my teeth into a script!''

News Bits: Interstellar, Woman, Wars, Figment

Oct 15 2014 11:54pm CDT | Source: Dark Horizons

Interstellar EW reports that over an hour of footage from Christopher Nolan's latest feature "Interstellar" has been shot in IMAX. Nolan says: "This is the first film I have made where the actual experience of the film is paramount to the audience. You would think that's the case with Batman movies but it's not; they're more dependent on the reaction of characters on screen. Interstellar is different. It ha ...

Get a Jump Scare with New Woman in Black: Angel of Death Trailer

Oct 10 2014 10:26am CDT | Source: beyond hollywood

Yeah, I know, leading you into a scene (using a innocent kid, no less) and then throwing a jump scare at you with fancy quick cut editing is a bit of a cheat, but hey, it kind of works. Anyhoos. Take a gander at a new trailer for the Brit horror sequel “The Woman in Black: Angel of Death,” take a ganderers. I guess Harry Potter was wielding some weak magic, since he apparently didn’t manage to kill the o ...

New Teaser for THE WOMAN IN BLACK: ANGEL OF DEATH Introduces the Title Character

Oct 10 2014 9:35am CDT | Source: Collider

I remember being a little underwhelmed by The Woman in Black when I first saw it in 2012.  It was a well made movie, but fell firmly into the category of "not my thing" despite the fact that I'm a huge horror nut.  Most fans disagreed with me though and the movie made an impressive sum of money on a relatively small budget.  If you saw the ending of that film, it will come as no surprise that Daniel Radcliffe doesn't return in the sequel (or does he) but it looks like the at ...

Michael Douglas Talks THE REACH, Why He Didn’t Direct Feature Films, How He Became a Producer, Future Projects, THE GAME, and More at TIFF 2014

Sep 9 2014 9:00pm CDT | Source: Collider

A few days ago at the Toronto International Film Festival, I landed an exclusive video interview with Michael Douglas for his new cat-and-mouse thriller The Reach.  Directed by Jean-Baptiste Leonetti (Carré Blanc), the film features Douglas as wealthy businessman determined to kill big game in the Mojave Desert.  To help accomplish his goal, he hires a local guide (played by Jeremy Irvine), but after a  tragic accident they quickly become adversaries, and the rest of the film is about which pe ...

THE REACH Review | TIFF 2014

Sep 9 2014 7:33pm CDT | Source: Collider

I like the premise of humans hunting other humans for sport because it’s delightfully ludicrous and perversely entertaining.  It’s a lean, direct concept that removes the frills to become a battle of wits between the hunter and “the most dangerous game”.  For the majority of its runtime, Jean-Baptiste Léonetti’s The Reach sits comfortably inside this framework.  The story takes the occasional shortcut, but it also works in some subtext about economic inequality, w ...
