Josh Brolin cast in Sin City: A Dame To Kill For

Jan 9 2013, 10:18am CST | by

Josh Brolin will play the lead in 'Sin City: A Dame To Kill For'.

The Oscar-nominated actor has been cast as central character Dwight McCarthy in co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's prequel to 2005 blockbuster 'Sin City', taking over from Clive Owen who played the hero in the original crime thriller.

The filmmakers said: ''Dwight is a constant character throughout the Sin City world and 'A Dame To Kill For' is a defining episode in his life. We're looking forward to Josh's take on Dwight.''

Dwight - one of the best-loved characters from Miller's original graphic novels - will be hunted down by the only woman he has ever loved, Ava Lord, before he ''watches his life go straight to hell'', according to Collider.com. The evil 'Dame' has yet to be cast.

'Gangster Squad' star Josh, 44, is also joined by 'Law & Order' actor Christopher Meloni, who will draw upon his TV experience to play a dodgy cop.

Josh last appeared in 'Men in Black 3' alongside Will Smith and is renowned for his Academy Award nominated 2008 performance in Gus Van Sant's 'Milk'.

It was recently reported that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is negotiating a ''core'' role as 'Johnny' in the film noir style feature, a part originally offered to Johnny Depp.

Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Jaime King, Dennis Haysbert and Jamie Chung also star.

'Sin City: A Dame To Kill For' is set for release in October 2013.

First Bits of ‘Inherent Vice’ Footage Revealed in New York Film Festival Trailer

Sep 10 2014 12:45pm CDT | Source: Slash Film

It’s not much, but we’re still in “we’ll take *anything*” mode when it comes to the new Paul Thomas Anderson film Inherent Vice. So here’s the first Inherent Vice footage, albeit in super-brief form. The trailer for this year’s New York Film Festival has gone online, and it features two or three clips from the Thomas Pynchon adaptation, nestled in amongst footage from the rest of the festival’s high-profile films. So, yeah, the bad news is that there are just a coup ...

Sep 10 2014 11:57am CDT | Source: Collider

We know we’ve got a Guardians of the Galaxy sequel coming on July 28, 2017, but what’s to stop the characters from popping up in other Marvel movies as well?  Knowing the MCU and what the filmmakers have already teased, nothing at all.  In fact, a report just surfaced claiming that Dave Bautista is currently restructuring his contract so that he’ll benefit from Guardians’ financial success and also lock him ...

Why "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For" should have done better.

Sep 8 2014 4:19pm CDT | Source: movie pilot

I’m disappointed by the second Sin City film, but not in the way you think.Last night, after weeks of trying to find someone willing to go with me, I FINALLY got to see Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. I am a fan of the first film, as well as most of Frank Miller’s movie adaptations (except from a HUGELY underwhelming second 300 movie), therefore it was natural that I was eagerly anticipating the release of A Dame to Kill For.Reports of box offi ...

The Last Of Us Joel fan cast Part 1

Aug 26 2014 6:05pm CDT | Source: movie pilot

With the Comic-Con announcement a while ago officially confirming our knowledge of a Last Of Us one big question comes to mind. Who will play the two main characters, Joel and Ellie? Now I'm sure the studio has a few people in mind and maybe some of the people on this poll are on their minds at the moment. Most of the people here are fan favorites and a curveball or two. Some of the people here are much more favored then others so I will try to pair them th ...

Review: Sin City: A Dame To Kill For

Aug 22 2014 11:57pm CDT | Source: Dark Horizons

It's been nearly a decade since Robert Rodriguez's stylish adaptation of Frank Miller's Sin City comic book series shook up the megaplexes with a darkly humorous brand of pseudo-noir. Unfortunately, the long-awaited sequel Sin City: A Dame to Kill doesn't prove to be worth the wait. Whereas the first film  was kitschy, ambitious schlock, its sequel is a monotonous, shallow, parody of its predecessor. Rodriguez and Miller play up the nihilism, misogyny, sadism, a ...

Sin City A Dame to Kill For Review: Sinful, And Not in a Good Way

Aug 22 2014 9:15am CDT | Source: movie fanatic

It may have taken nine years to follow up Sin City, but Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller are back at it again with Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and it does have several things going for it. The cast is clearly much more comfortable acting in a green screen environment than there were for the first one. And the technology to create a world that completely doesn’t exist except in the mind of a graphic novel artist and a supremely talented filmmaker has ...

‘Sin City: A Dame to Kill For’ Review

Aug 22 2014 7:30am CDT | Source: Screen Rant

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is a jumbled but still enjoyable followup that, for most moviegoers, arrives on the scene too late. Sin City: A Dame to Kill For presents another glimpse at the twisted stories of Frank Miller’s BaSin City, where crime lords and crooked politicians compete for control of the streets. In a place like Sin City, savage thugs Marv (Mickey Rourke) and Dwight McCarthy (Josh Brolin) can be heroes – inflicting rage and a thirst for violence on scumbags that prey upon the w ...

Another ‘Inherent Vice’ Image Captures a Shaggy, Carefree Joaquin Phoenix

Aug 21 2014 6:30pm CDT | Source: Slash Film

A second image has arrived from Paul Thomas Anderson‘s Inherent Vice. And while it’s very much in the vein of the first (above) the shot is a good chance to pass along comments about the movie from someone who’s seen it. I’m becoming tremendously excited for this one; just the prospect of having PTA adapt a Thomas Pynchon novel makes me giddy. Of all the things to fancast and dream of seeing, a proper Pynchon film has been at the forefront of my ...
