Snakes On A Plane director David R. Ellis dies

Jan 8 2013, 11:19am CST | by

'Snakes On A Plane' director David R. Ellis has died aged 60.

The filmmaker passed away yesterday (07.01.13) in his hotel room in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he was gearing up to shoot upcoming Samuel L. Jackson movie 'KITE'. The cause of his death is as yet unknown.

Samuel tweeted: ''So sad to hear of David R Ellis passing. So talented, so kind, such a good friend. Gone too soon!''

David is best known for 2006 cult thriller 'Snakes On A Plane', which starred 'Pulp Fiction' actor Samuel as an FBI agent on a mission to save terrified passengers from poisonous reptiles let loose on a long-haul flight.

He began his Hollywood career as a child actor in the 70s with parts in 'Wonder Woman', 'Flying High' and 'Rocky III' before training as a stuntman and moving on to filmmaking.

The thrill-loving director also helmed 'Final Destination 2', 'The Final Destination', 'Cellular' and 2011's 'Shark Night 3D', and worked as a second unit director on big action sequences in the first 'Harry Potter' film, 'The Matrix Reloaded' and Kevin Costner's 'Waterworld'.

The father-of-three most recently worked on the Keanu Reeves feature '47 Ronin' and the 'R.I.P.D' with Ryan Reynolds, which are yet to be released.

Even with Samuel Jackson, 'Kite' fails to take off

Oct 9 2014 7:45pm CDT | Source: la times

The dippy dystopian action film "Kite" isn't bad because Samuel L. Jackson is in it, but the ubiquitous star's umpteenth phoned-in badass is certainly an indication of how inconsequential the whole ...

JK Rowling “Tweaking” ‘Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them’ Screenplay

Oct 6 2014 3:00pm CDT | Source: slash film

Every day, conversations in the film community gravitate to how DC, Marvel and Lucasfilm are working on huge, interconnected universes on the big screen. Innumerable other franchises are emulating this blueprint too, whether it be the Universal Monsters or Ghostbusters. But a similar franchise largely kept out of the conversation is Harry Potter. In the next decade, we’re going to get at least three new films in Potter’s universe. The spin-off series, set years before Harry’s story, ...

Kite Review

Oct 3 2014 1:56pm CDT | Source: ign

Samuel L. Jackson starring in a live-action version of a cult girl-sassin anime may look great on paper and sound awesome as a pitch, but the result here - with Kite (headed to VOD and theaters on October 10th) - is an ugly, boring trudge of a movie. As it turns out, when you redo anime with actual actors you draw express attention to the fact that the story is often obtuse and dull - and is only palatable via the vessel of the style and tone of the animation ...

10 Dogs That Look Exactly Like Celebrities

Oct 2 2014 1:51pm CDT | Source: movie pilot

Remember a few years ago when picking out your celebrity doppelgänger was a thing? It was fun, it was silly, and it definitely revealed some massive egos on a few of my friends.Although the fad is over, and a blurry, out of focus, image of Olivia Munn no longer graces my Facebook profile (that ego thing applies to me as well), doppelgängers are still fun to spot. I've found this to be especially true when they're celebrity DOG-ppelgängers!These are some super cool ...

‘The Hateful Eight’ Shoots in Colorado in December

Sep 29 2014 8:30am CDT | Source: Slash Film

Moreso than anything he’s ever done, the new Quentin Tarantino film The Hateful Eight is being assembled in public.
