Snakes On A Plane director David R. Ellis dies

Jan 8 2013, 11:19am CST | by

'Snakes On A Plane' director David R. Ellis has died aged 60.

The filmmaker passed away yesterday (07.01.13) in his hotel room in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he was gearing up to shoot upcoming Samuel L. Jackson movie 'KITE'. The cause of his death is as yet unknown.

Samuel tweeted: ''So sad to hear of David R Ellis passing. So talented, so kind, such a good friend. Gone too soon!''

David is best known for 2006 cult thriller 'Snakes On A Plane', which starred 'Pulp Fiction' actor Samuel as an FBI agent on a mission to save terrified passengers from poisonous reptiles let loose on a long-haul flight.

He began his Hollywood career as a child actor in the 70s with parts in 'Wonder Woman', 'Flying High' and 'Rocky III' before training as a stuntman and moving on to filmmaking.

The thrill-loving director also helmed 'Final Destination 2', 'The Final Destination', 'Cellular' and 2011's 'Shark Night 3D', and worked as a second unit director on big action sequences in the first 'Harry Potter' film, 'The Matrix Reloaded' and Kevin Costner's 'Waterworld'.

The father-of-three most recently worked on the Keanu Reeves feature '47 Ronin' and the 'R.I.P.D' with Ryan Reynolds, which are yet to be released.

13 Things You Didn't Know About 'Pulp Fiction'

Sep 19 2014 5:33pm CDT | Source: yahoo

As far as the '90s go, no movie had quite the impact on both audiences and critics as Quentin Tarantino's 'Pulp Fiction.' The film made stars out of Samuel L. Jackso ...

BIG GAME Review | TIFF 2014

Sep 12 2014 2:50pm CDT | Source: Collider

A good thirty minutes into Jalmari Helander’s Big Game, a thought arises that never ceases to fade: “Shouldn’t I be having more fun considering the goofy premise?”  It’s a kid in the wilderness who’s forced to protect the President of the United States.  Then you cast Samuel L. Jackson—a man whose ubiquity and longevity in spite of some seriously questionable choice in projects is a testament to his enduring popularity—as the President. Unfortuna ...

Big Game Review

Sep 11 2014 4:44pm CDT | Source: ign

This review is part of IGN's cover of the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival. The only reason we know Big Game wasn't dug up from a 30-year-old time capsule are the appearances by Samuel L. Jackson and Ray Stevenson in their ass-kicking prime. A man-vs-nature-vs-terrorists action jaunt, director Jalmari Helander's follow-up to the “Evil Santa” horror film Rare Exports grafts Steven Spielberg's Amblin charm to a '80s shoot-em-up. It's Die Hard i ...
